After having a heck of a week, I had a good day shooting my Armi Sport 1852 .69 Springfield rifle. Using 50 grains of Goex FFg, I can fire a 3 shot group where the holes nearly touch each other at 25 yards and only open up a little bit at 50 yards. I aimed at a 7 inch gong we have hanging up at 150 yards and only missed it by 2 inches (low). I'm thinking maybe 5-10 more grains will get me on at 100 yards, but I'm going to try that out tomorrow.

I'm using patched .680" roundballs cast using a Lee mold. The patches are strips of cotton broadcloth that's about .010" thick that was soaked in a 1:7 Ballistol:water solution and allowed to dry, but I moisten them with my mouth after I rip off a chunk. Ballistol is quite sweet tasting. :) I'm also using a .75" 1/8" thick felt wad that's been soaked in Gatafeo's lube and the excess squeezed out before cooling, so they're not so messy.

It's extremely enjoyable to be able to hit what you're aiming at.

Next up, I'm going to try to find a load for my .54 Mississippi rifle and my .58" 1861 Springfield. I've got plenty of roundballs and minie balls for both.
