I'll get to the point but let me set the scenario...

I will soon apply for a ccw but in the past a couple of times I have ridden motorcycles on loan or dropped off bikes in Seattle because that's the nearest dealer I had to service the machine - so I traveled on Greyhound or NW Trailways from Seattle <---> Spokane I carry a small backpack with
various pockets in the main part and side pockets There's no search or anything like airports - I figured out just sit near the front of the bus it's where the young women or older women sit the young turks or older white trash etc don't go they go to the bus.

SO, my Leatherman's Wave is wearing out the lock the blade for the drop point is done and I am looking for a replacement - for a multi-tool what have any of you found to be a good make / model/

I was once in the pits at a road race for motorcycles and a friend low slided a Ducati and while a friends nurse attended to his toe which took a gearshift leaver down to the bone we worked on his bike because he had a
nother race to run - out of all the tool boxes sitting there nobody had a
file to work on a throttle grip mech. I pulled out my original Leatherman's tool and flipped out the file and said here and it was the right tool for the job.

I can go up to Spokane at REI and they have every multi-tool in one galss case - what do any of you like to wear on your belt or in the backpack
and why? THe flip out scissors is certainly handy and also for any blade or serrated saw to lock is a good thing for around camp or other .

.

My understanding is that Leatherman has a lifetime warranty. Send it in, and they'll repair/replace it at their option. You can't beat free.

My personal opinion is that the wave is still the best multi-tool out there. The larger leatherman is too large, and really doesn't add functionality. I've never owned any other multi-tool, but a couple of buddies of mine have had Gerbers. I prefer the Leatherman opening. Not as slick, but it works.

IMHO, Victorinox makes the best multi tools. I have a SwissTool RS. Quality-wise it blows away my previously favored Gerbers, as well as any Leatherman I've handled.

Leatherman hasd a 25 year warranty. Send your tool in.

I have always been partial to the original PST, but one of my two recently developed a serious defect, and I sent it in. In the mean time I bought a SOG Powerlock, which is built like a tank, and hass all locking tools, including the V-Cutter.

Send it back to Leatherman. Their customer service and repair department is excellent. I had a 2 week turn around for my Leatherman P4 Squirt. They sent me a brand new one.

They are running a little slower than that right now, but it is summer and folks do go on vacation. They have had my PST for about 5-6 weeks now. I'm going to give them a call to check up on it.

The knife blade on the Buck multi-tool is the best of the best, could actual butcher with it. However, don't buy it for the tool part. It's pretty flimsy. I have a Leatherman supertool I carry daily, and at the track when I'm road racing my motorcycles. :D Of course, I don't have a belt on my leathers, but you know what I mean. I have loaned the file out at the track a few times, LOL.

Good advice given on sending it in to Leatherman.

The only way to top the Wave is to get one of the Ti Leatherman or the Victorinox.

I owned an original Leatherman, and liked it, but I have since gotten the Victorinox SwissTool, which I like much better. I loaned the Leatherman out, and don't care if it comes back. I actually have two SwissTools- one standard, and one Plus. I bought the Plus version when I thought I had lost my first one, only to find it, so now I am blessed with two. :) I currently wear the Plus version, and have found that the bits come in handy, and I can swap out ones for specific tasks if I know I am going to need them. For example, I will have the ones necessary to take my Remington 597 apart for shooting this coming weekend.

As a testemant to Leatherman's warranty service, they ended up sending me a new Blast (with a leather sheath) in replacement for my old PST. For those unaware, the Blast retails for $50 to $60.
