So for Christmas, am visiting my GF's family in Thousand Oaks California.
Any good gun stores or any cool gun related places around the area?
I know for a couple of days we are going to LA and her brother lives in Oxnard.
Thanks.

I know Oxnard has a Turner's Outdoorsman store, bit Ventura County not exactly known for its gun shops (that I'm aware of). There's a cool indoor range in Simi Valley I went to a few years back (with a buddy who was stationed in Oxnard) but I can't remember the name. It's pretty tough to do any shooting in California if you're a non-resident as you can't purchase ammunition there.

For the biggest selection of rifles and pistols you have seen in a long time go to Camarillo Gun Store.....tell them that I sent you.
For ammo, go to Copper Bullet in Thousand Oaks on TO Blvd......tell them that I sent you.
In both cases, by telling them I sent you, neither of us will get a discount.
Oh yes, Oxnard's Shooters Paradise has a fair selection of handguns and rifles.
Your buddy is thinking of 'Smokin Barrel' in Simi Valley. It is good also.
PM me if you cannot google their locations.

As an out of state resident you cannot personnally buy firearms OR ammo from a CA gun store (sigh). Try gift certificates....most offer them.

So if I find say an old Smith revolver, I can't buy it and have it shipped back to Wisconsin to my FFL?

Probably not but your friends/relatives might be able to buy it (wait 10 days) then send it to you via a FFl for $1.00 sell price as a third party transfer....I think. Ask the local dealer about hout to do that legally.

You can buy ammo at the range without California ammo background check. The caveat is that the range ammo is expensive, and you have to shoot it all. They will ask you if you did indeed shoot it all, as you can’t leave with it.

There's quite a few gun stores in the San Fernando Valley. Which isn't to far from Thousand Oaks, if you feel like driving around.

If you're closer to the 118 Fwy, it's a better drive than the 101 Fwy. Being that it's a holiday weekend, traffic will probably be insane!

Not sure if I'll be off on Sunday but it would be a good day to head to Angeles Shooting Range. Not a far drive from TO.

Turners Outdoorsman bought out a LGS here which was the biggest in town. They came from Cal and now have two in AZ that I know of. Huge selection and they have a online list of available used guns across Cal.
