daughters and shooting

Great to see you both havin fun. What a good shot she is. My daughter is an adult now and she constantly out shoots me . Nice work.

Just watched the 450yd video again...very impressive.

I can't imagine what she could do with proper form and equipment.
She appears to be shooting right handed using her left eye?, with way too much eye relief. If she's gonna shoot left eye then she really needs to shoot left handed to get her body mechanics correct. Was just getting ready to go to the range this morning and sighted through 3 of my scoped rifles using that much eye relief and came up with about 1/2 the diameter of sight picture.
I'm NOT saying this to be critical, but as a rifle instructor it kills me to see good shooters develope bad habits that will limit their potential. Granted it works great for her now but she will NEVER shoot offhand like that and I'd cringe to watch her shoot a heavier recoiling rifle like that.

I need to get a long eye relief scope for her, The gun is way to big for her, and she is shooting it in a way that works best for her. I will start working with her on how to do it "right"

Look around and see if you can find a deal on a stock/chassis with an adjustable LOP. My kids (the older two) shoot my rifle about as much as I do. It's in an xlr and when adjusted where the cheekpiece is about 3/4" off the bolt shroud when open, it fits my 8 y/o boy just right.

I missed the part about it being a .223. I posted the 6.5cm load because I thought she was shooting your new rifle.

Just totally awesome!

Any man can be a father, but it takes a REAL MAN to be a dad.
Mine's been gone for 9 years now, I miss him terribly.
Folks, Hondo means he's lost his dad.

Hondo, I miss mine terribly also, and he's been gone 26 years. It still hurts that long when you've had a real dad. Mine was probably my best friend.

OP, very nice, and congrats on being a real dad.

well, nice to you know youre training her properly to be proficient with guns.. my first experience was before i even started kindergarten.. uncle gave me a 12 gauge, pointed my down range and had me shoot it.. not exactly easing into it and i vaguely remember being thrown back into a tree.. but hey, who else can say they started firing 12 gauges at 3 years old :D, makes me sound much more badass than i am.. probably should have started out with a 22 though

---

anyway, is she actually left eye dominant?.. only guy i know whos right handed and left eye dominant found it easier, and more accurate to just learn to shoot left handed

actually it makes your uncle sound like an idiot. who in their right mind would have a 3 year old shoot a twelve gauge? but i digress...

clayne, excellent stuff as usual. i remember her shooting the .22 a while back. glad to see your passing along your skills and knowledge.

oh i agree it was a pretty dumb idea back.. actually took a hard hit to the head when i hit the tree too.. but eeh.. big deal

If it's any help, I lost my real dad when I was 3. At least you guys have memories of yours. All I have are a precious few pictures.

Mere words do not do justice as to how proud you make me, and I do not even know you. You are an awesome person and you have earned my respect which is not given lightly.
The fact that you spend time with your children and the fact that you are introducing them to this sport is a long american tradition. God bless you and keep up the good work.

Gee whiz Clayne, she's making us look bad enough as it is! ;) Great job of teaching her so far. That's really impressive. I didn't start teaching my daughter until she was 7. I thought that was young. She was 10 before I started her on centerfire rifles. She could shoot better than me now if she practiced even a little bit. She's not real interested in it unfortunately but my son likes to shoot a lot. My daughter sure knows how to shoot though. That counts for a lot especially when she was living alone in my house in the country. I gave her the same 20 ga. shotgun my dad gave me for HD. It still works like brand new. She had a pistol too but she knows what the shotgun is for. She doesn't live more than 3 miles from the place my mother used a shotgun to chase off a rapist. Mom didn't know a thing about shotguns but she figured it out quick while the scumbag was trying to get into the house. I wanted to make sure my daughter would know how to work her shotgun without waiting until the last second.

All those idjits that think guns are never used for SD should have talked with my mom for a short time. Mom's passed away now but she always kept a gun around after that day when dad was at work and all the other people that worked where he did knew he was at work. Mom's brother just passed away a few months ago. He preached guns to me every time I talked to him. He knew I was just as much of a gun lover as he was but that didn't stop him. He was a bit on the windy side I guess. He knew what he was talking about though.
