One tough Hi-Point 45 Carbine!

My Brother let a friend shoot his HP Carbine, and stuck some bullets! Was shooting Factory Remington ammo, and must have had a squib round, then put some good ones down afterwards. Should have stopped shooting when the report wasn't right, shame on him for firing 2 more rounds! The front sight flew down range, and the end of the barrel had 2 bulges in it near the muzzle. Hi-Point is sending a new carbine out, no questions asked!! Cant beat that service!! My brother said he don't know if hes gonna trust this one, but I assured him it was ammo related, not the firearm. This is not a slam on Hi-Point, or Remington, but to the shooter! If it don't sound right(At least to the by standers) Don't keep shooting, and check things out!

Will try to get the lot #

Thats good service from High Point. Maybe a heads up to Remington on that ammo lot is in order.

T The gun blow up and did not hurt anyone and it took to extra rounds to blow it up. Maybe if your buddy does not trust the gun that took 3 rounds to blow he should just give it to you. And he does not know if he can trust the gun!!

That sounds incredibly dangerous. I would not shoot this gun or it's replacement ever again. In fact, I recommend you just send the replacement gun to me, I'll pay shipping and thus ensure that you guys are safe from this exploding machine.

:D :D :D

"user doesn't deserve anything"
Yeah, but the user's friend, the guy who owns the rifle, does. I'm amazed that the rifle held for another 2 rounds, AND that HP is going to make good on it. Yup, I would be a customer for life with that kind of product and service. Maybe I should go shoot some Remington crap through my 995. Maybe I can get a new rifle too.

That was an ammo failure for sure but since your getting a new gun out of it be happy. I saw a guy stack 4 bullets in a 1911 before figuring out that nothing was coming out the end!!!!!! Bulged the barrel real bad but with a new one the gun was good to go. Frank

How come the bushing didn't seize on the first bulged spot? I had two squibs in two different 1911's on the same day, and with both of them, when the bushing hit the bulge the slide seized up hard. It took a large plastic mallet to whack them loose. And the bulges aren't that big.

But yeah, HP's customer service is tops! A guy on another forum found a HP carbine in a dump that had been in a fire, totally ruined. He sent it to HiPoint and they "said" they'd repaired it, but he swears the one they sent him was brand new. Totally free.

Good question rondog, and I don't know the answer except that the barrel probably didn't bulge till the last shot. He was manually operating the slide till the last one and then figured out something was wrong. It's been 30 years but as I remember it he had some that he hadn't put a charge in and those stacked up but probably the last one was charged and thats when he realized what was happening. Like I say it was over 30 years ago and I was just a casual observer but this guy was our instructor for the kids at the club. Frank

I know Hi Point is trying to retain a customer, but in cases like this, they're just rewarding failure....user doesn't deserve anything.

Failure of what? What the OP described, if his description was accurate, was an obstructed barrel. Certainly not the firearms fault. Kudos to Hi Point.

Just talked to my Brother, and he said the barrel was clear of obstructions when I looked at it. There was definately two bulges at the muzzle, but must have been shot clear. Don't sound possible, but what else could it be? The gun store that sold the ammo, said they have not had any complaints from anyone on the ammo hes sold. Could a round be strong enough to make it through a pistol, but not strong enough to clear the carbine barrel? May have been an isolated incident.

Yes it could.

Wait, the carbine just ate 2 fully loaded rounds after the squib?

Have you seen how overbuilt their carbines are? I'm surprised they don't make them in .460 Rowland.

This makes a little more sense.
When I lived in town, I shot a lot of Colibri's and Super Colibri's in my .22's in the back yard. With one rifle, I noticed the normally quiet rounds (Colibri's) would make a peculiar pop when I fired them. Ultimately, what I discovered was the one of the little bullets would stick in the barrel a few inches from the muzzle. When the second round was fired, the bullet leaving the chamber would creat enough pressure as it traveled down the barrel to push the first (stuck) bullet out, then the second bullet would stop in the barrel until another round was fired, and so on.
Maybe something like this happened to the Hi Point.

I know for sure that a wad stuck in a shotgun barrel will cause a bulge when the next shell is fired.

Was he rapid-firing the gun?
I'm convinced, if someone rapid-fires faster than their brain can tell them that what just fired did not sound quite right, STOP NOW -- something like this could happen very easily!

I used to bump-fire in my younger years, however, I came to realize, should something malfunction, pulling the trigger faster than your brain can tell your finger to stop pulling the trigger:uhoh:, a kaboom is likely to occur!

It simply is not worth the risk involved. I don't want to be blinded and I care to have all my fingers, thank you.
