Wait times and faxes

Mine took about 3-4 months from send-in to get-back. Looks like the wait can be anything. Having been in Uncle Sam's Yacht Club, this surprises me not at all.

As to faxes... ATF changed the policy on this sometime within the last year or so. Faxed 03 FFLs are acceptable to ATF. Some vendors haven't changed their policies yet. I don't shop with them. If you make it more difficult than it needs to be for me to be your customer, don't expect to see much of my money. Just the way I'm wired, I guess.

Kind of like vendors who won't sell legal items to Californians. Nobody's asking you to break the law, but if you show me that you don't want my money, I'm all too happy to oblige you. Somebody else wants it, and they'll get it.

That's what I'm saying. If they can accept a fax, then an emailed copy should do just as well. All they have to do is print it or keep it in their electronic filing cabinet. I guess the best thing to do is to just email them and ask if that's acceptable.

Interesting. In anticipation of mine arriving before all the milsurps are sold I've been checking various sites. Most say they are not allowed to accept faxed copies. Here is the quote from the Centuty site:

We are only accepting faxed copies of FFL type 01 licenses to fax number (561) 265-4520. We do not accept faxed copies of 03 licenses. These licenses will have to be mailed to us.

I've seen the same listed other places. Of course, if mine never shows up I guess I won't have to worry about it.

Actually I just checked and I mailed mine 2/5/07 and the credit card was hit on 2/9. Maybe I need to make a call on Monday. So many deals I've had to let slip past because I didn't have it. :(

Just don't sign the original!!!!

As soon as you get it run out and make a dozen copies and sign most of 'em in red ink. Some places won't accept anything other than red ink, but I don't know of any place that won't accept 'em WITH red ink. Leave a couple blank just in case someone wants one in blue ink. They never want 'em in black ink, looks too much like a photocopy.

Then stash the original in a safe spot.

Mine took 5 weeks in Texas, just got it yesterday. I know this question has been answered before, but can anyone list some reputable websites to order milsurp rifles, ammo and asccesories from. I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

Just got mine..... took just over 2 weeks from mail box to mail box.

Just ordered my first rifle..... a 35 dolalr Mosin.... ooooooo yeah. :neener:

I received my packet (a large bundle of regulation manuals and forms) about 8 weeks after the check was cashed.

The question is, where is the license? Is it mailed seperately?

I got my license separately and it came in an envelop that made it look like junk mail (the size of a sheet of paper folded in half and no BATFE logo), the rest came about a week later in a large envelope with the BATFE logo on it. It only took 11 days from the time I sent out my application until I received it.

Important Information

I got my renewal last year in about two weeks. The reason I got it so quickly is because I submitted the form by FAX to the specific clerk that handles the FFL processing for Massachusetts. If you mail the forms it take a lot longer since all mail to the Government must go through an inspection process, before being delivered to the correct department. Depending on the volume of mail it can take days before your piece is processed and on its way to the correct department. Then things can get backlogged in that Departments mail room. If one faxes the forms then it goes to the head of the pile on the clerks desk. Usually they will process once they pick it up from the fax machine. I was told all this by Debbie who is the clerk that process all FFLs for Massachusetts.

Also do not use any forms found on other websites since they are out of date, and might be rejected by the ATF. Go to the ATFs website and download the newest form.

Original C&%

I agree with previous posts about making and keeping copies of the original -- sign the copies with ink other than black, although I've never had anyone not accept a copy of my C&R. I keep a couple copies in the glove box in my car so I can have a few in my possession when attending gun shows. Also, I scanned my original into electronic format and can print copies when needed.

I used to have extra money before I got the damn thing.
