OK,
After reading the cane threads I decided to get myself a traveli'n stick for when my CCW is unavailable.
I started with a 36" octagon profile Elephant Cane from eNasco. It has a diameter of about 1 1/4" and came plain with a medium sanded finish $10.75 + Shipping.

I cut it to length, cut 2" off the crook at an angle, sanded the flats off of the crook and opened it up a bit on the underside. Then sanded the lateral sides of the cane body to give it "tactile directionality", sanded it to a smoother finish burned in a spiral pattern with a propane torch, added an inspirational motto, 4 coats of spray spar urethane and a rubber ladder tip from Home Depot (4 for $1.43) and here it is.
This will go with me where my kimber can't. NYC, NJ et all and I am due to go to Europe this Summer for a week.
I'm currently experimenting with a combination of Arnis, Kenjutsu and pugil techniques. The balance and power in this is very nice!
Next I want to make a nicer one out of a 1" G10 rod highly polished with a brass hame top or T handle added, depending on if I want a club or war hammer effect. Haven't decided yet
