I started inventorying all my powdered and decided I needed a storage cabinet for it. I had it scattered throughout my house and shop. Did not realize that I had as much as I did. This is located in in my climate controlled shop. which doubles as my gunsmith/machine shop/handloading room. The shop is located 30 yrds from my house. The main shop is my dad's old wood working shop, which I rearranged, rewired so it would be usable. Build new benches with doors to keep those dirt dauber bee's out. Also has all of my mechanic tools/ refrigeration tools and welding gear.

Since fire codes require a minimum thickness of 1". So I made it out of the new 3/4" sanded plywood, 23/32" x 2. Took way more wood than I thought it ever wood, 3 1/2 4x8 sheets. The size is 36"x20"x80".

And UPS for my DRO on my End mill. This is the reason for the doors to keep the chips and fluids out.

Now for the powder storage. 130# + , 36" x 30" x 20"

All seams are over lapped. Doors recessed. Used std door hinges and recessed them so every thing end up flush with minimal gaps. Corner joint design.jpg

All I can say is it is heavy. I did a quick stain and urethane finish to make it easier to clean when it gets sprayed.

Looks good Blue. Hoping to do the same thing when we eventually move into our “forever” home, hopefully with a nize sized machine shop with a reloading room :)

I was wondering if I made it large enough when I started moving all of my powder into it. May add another short shelf for the 1# containers if needed.

This shop is a old pole building that my dad built around 1973, steel siding and roof. Not much wood except where I enclosed the one end. Built it strong enough for storage over the top of it. Had it sprayed with urethane foam insulation all the way around and ceiling. Do the construction of the pole building some of the walls have 5" of foam sprayed in to fill all the gaps. I was told by the installer that the foam he uses has a insulation properties of" 1" foam = 8" fiber glass. Does not take much to heat or cool it, no windows. Lighting is LED's. When I built the shop I knew I need a way to get big heavy equipment inside so I made one 5' panel where it could be removed, not easy but could be done. Everyone that sees the inside always ask how I got everything through the 30" door.

Nice cabinet (I bet that plywood was expensive) but I don't think I would ever place anything electrical in the same cabinet as gunpowder or primers. Are those devices powered up? I have seen a lot of houses and buildings burned down due to electrical faults.
