My ccw ammo am I missing anything

For your J-frame I suggest the Speer 125gr Gold Dot Short Barrel load.
I'm sure it's only a typo but the "short barrel" Speer .38 Special +P and .357 Magnum ammo is loaded with a 135gr bullet, not a 125gr bullet. The 135gr SB bullet is a slightly different design and was made to expand reliably at the slower velocities associated with short barrel revolvers.

for my LCP I use Hornady TAP HP non +p, as I understand Ruger says no +p
as far as the TAPs go, they feed the best for me as the "hollow point area" on the front is smaller and pointier, and doesnt hang up on the feed ramp like the Gold Dots i tested,
from what I read, the TAPs are a good combo for the 380, the tend to open a little less than your average HP thus penetrating a bit better, but not over penetrating like an FMJ

Sorry guys i mistyped in my jframe my ammo is 130gr fmj hp plus p by winchestee i am thinking of some gold dots for my 45 though

The most important part is picking the right opponent.
So, interview your bad guys, and make sure they are small enough so hollow points penetrate enough to get to their vitals.
Also, make sure they agree not to wear vests, or heavy clothing that might make the
HP's penetrate less. Have them sign the agreement that anything that might inhibit penetration, wallet, cell phone, medallions, note books, holsters etc. are to be taken off prior to their attacking you.

I'd also like to see a prison study of the average size of your robbery and violent crime
convicted felon. Somehow, considering the percentages, size, and that we let them lift and get bigger in prison, I'm not all warm and fuzzy with shallow penetration HP's.

The most important part is picking the right opponent.
Your better bet would be to get the government to pass a law making you criminally and civilly immune from deaths and injuries caused by through and throughs caused by your FMJs. That way, I won't be able to skin you like a Cenobite in civil court if you shoot THROUGH somebody and hit ME or one of my relatives. Until that time, you own EVERY bullet you shoot. I guarantee you that my lawyer will be standing by to retrieve them.

Here is a copy of an article that came show you what happens, this happened in a small suburb of buffalo new york, that sits right on the city line and has experienced alot of home invasions, by the ghetto scumbags from the city. The home owner was recently aquitted by a grand jury and now the family is sueing in civil court. Note this happened in late spring 2010.

here is what your ammo specs should say in the advertizing, this is straight from remingtons literature.

These are the specs for their Golden saber loads

Overview:
Dead-serious bullet innovation. A superior bullet for when the stakes are at their highest. Designed for law enforcement and personal defense, the Golden Saber High Performance Jacket successfully combines: match-type accuracy, deep penetration, maximum expansion and near 100% weight retention.

Hmmm... I dunno, the Golden Sabers are kind of notorious for core-jacket separation.
Still, I think they're great hollowpoints.

Wasn't that with the higher velocity stuff like the 9mm and 40 S&W? I think the .38 Special and .45 Auto fared better. (I like the Golden Saber in .230gr .45 Auto)

My ccw ammo am I missing anything
Hi, I'm a very busy proffessional who lives/works in bad areas sometimes, I cc a 1911 5", j-frame and lcp depending on circumstances. My question is about my ammo choices I don't shoot a lot (its depending on schedule) and these seem to work(having not had to use them in self defense) is there anything out there clearly better?

380- buffalo bore fmj flat point 95gr/ 975fps

38spl- Winchester 130 gr fmj +P

45- any of these(they all shoot well) American Eagle 230gr FMJ, Wolf 230gr FMJ, Black Hills 230gr FMJ Hollow Point

Thanks

I would look at Double Tap, buffalobore, HST as well. For general carry, in a bad area, I think the other posters have a point that you might look at the local LEO, and what they carry.

So....I loaded up the little M36, got within about 10 FEET of a large rooster (she had 7 at the time), cocked the hammer, centered the sights on its chest and fired....only to have the big rooster (MAYBE a whopping 7-8 pounds live weight) RUN OFF showing NO evidence of having been hit!
Don't chickens run around even after you cut their heads off? Or is that an urban legend?

Yes, they most certainly do.

Chickens are one of those animals that are just too dumb to realize they're dead.

I collect a lot of the rounds I shoot from the backstop on my property. Recently shot a clip full of Golden Sabers through my USP .45 and all the rounds I found had experienced jacket separation. Granted this is the terminal effects in loose/moist dirt but it seemed more pronounced than the HP rounds I have collected with other brands in 9mm and .38. That being said, the USP still serves nightstand duty with Golden Sabers because I have had absolutely no failures with that combo and I trust the round.

I wouldn't use any of the ammo you had in the poll for CCW. It's range use only except for the Wolf which I won't use. It's pure garbage.

I carry horandy critical defense for my full size 1911, and you can never go wrong with it. accurate, and good stopping power

Like previous posts asking for documentation, you've missed the mark. While the article in question does involve a shootings, at no point whatsoever does it detail or even mention the possibility of a civil suit. If you are going to post something as documentating your claims, make sure the article is at least relavent. AS it stands, the article is in no way relavent to the claims that you have made previously concerning carry ammo OR civil lawsuits resulting from one's choice of carry ammo,

article is only for an example of a terrible accidental shootings that can happen.

Once again, what does it have to add to the thread
this is about AMMO, not
terrible accidental shootings that can happen

Please, try to keep it ON TOPIC, I know I'm asking alot, especially for you.

For my part, I like the federal HST, if I can find them, from the Ballistic gel tests I've seen, but I would feel confident carrying most major manufactures. I tend to lean towards speed and consistent expansion that work with my gun, some of the large mouth HP's have had issues in some of my guns, not really ammo problems, more compatibility.
