Yes, my new CMP HRA Service Grade Special arrived on my doorstep on Monday. I have been buried at work this week, so frustrating, I barely had time to unbox it.

It is a thing of beauty, Serial #47541XX I have not had time to research the date or to take it apart to see if it is all HRA.

The CMP stock is actually quite nice, I doubt if I will ever change it out for GI wood, this will be a reliable shooter.

I can't wait to take it to the range. Along with the rifle, the CMP sent three cans of HXP and 500 rounds of the Hornady M1 ammo so I should be good to go with ammo for a while. The muzzle is +1 and the throat is +2.

Thank goodness for the CMP, without them, I probably wouldn't have bought a Garand, I would have been too paranoid of getting ripped off. With the CMP, you know exactly what you are paying for.

The next one with be a regular Service Grade, hopefully a WWII gun but I am thrilled with this one, I have wanted a Garand for most of my life and only recently have I been in a position buy one. I love owning a piece of history, it was the rifle that saved the world.

All of the metal looks far more gray under flash than it does in real life. Sometime, when I have time, I will shoot some more images with the sling and en bloc belt that I bought but I wanted to post something so just took these quickies.

That is gorgeous. I have a Service Grade being delivered tomorrow morning, and like you will be stuck at work the next couple days. :cuss: I'll be able to monkey with it for a couple hours during my break on Saturday, but won't have time to properly break it down 'til maybe Sunday, though maybe not, as my MIL will be in town. Get that thing out soon and ping it up!

That rifle is a work of both art and excellent function.

I hope that you have plenty of M2 Ball ammo, with much faster-burning powder than the type used in commercial ammo.

Better grab yours soon. Orest, the Director of the CMP has told us that he estimates a 12-18 month supply left and that will be it. The Service Grades they are selling now are the best they have had in decades, some look immaculate and all that I have seen look at least very good.

Every American Shooter should own a Garand, it is the rifle that saved the world. If you don't get one, you will live to regret it.

That is a great looking rifle. I have one of those myself. I will never fire mine. The metal is in pristine collector grade condition and I don't want to ruin that. I have a service grade that I use as a shooter. You might want to think about that before firing it.

The CMP may get more rifle returns from other countries in the future. So I wouldn't say they are going to sell out any time soon. There are some long time collectors who thought they were going to sell out years ago.

Congrats, that is a terrific looking HRA!

Many of HRA's receivers were polished to the point that they almost look melted. You should consider yourself lucky to have a very nice looking example with very clean lines as opposed to rounded edges and corners.

Beautiful. I got one each of the HRA and SA Specials...they are fantastic. Enjoy shooting them...or try to get a HRA 1954-55 vintage stock in decent shape. CMP describes these specials as "collector grade metal in a new CMP walnut stock with new stock metal". Get a nice HRA period correct stock and you've got a collector.

I have to admit...all my Garands are shooters...even the ones I haven't shot yet. Do use either M2 Ball or Hornady or American Eagle ammo marked specifically for M1s so as not to stress the operating rod. Alternatively, you can get an adjustable gas plug from Midway, Brownell's or the like.

:D

And less than $1,000 delivered to your door.

The CMP SGSs are just fantastic rifles... outstanding quality, outstanding condition, historical, and great to shoot.

What a rediculously great value of our time.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm wondering if anyone on THR has gotten one of the CMP Service Grade Specials lately. I'm thinking of getting an HRA. Are they still looking as nice as the one in this thread? Thanks!

Yes, the current Service Grade Specials should be as nice. CMP is faithful to their descriptions.

I have not received a Special in a while but did get a standard Service Grade a couple months ago and it is better than the description on the CMP web site.

That's a beautiful Garand.

The CMP walnut stocks are fantastic. I received one on my Service Grade Springfield.

Every gun owner should order at least one Garand from the CMP. They are amazing rifles (and pieces of history) for an amazing price.

I'm getting ready to order a HRA service grade special and I'll be on the lookout for a correct stock to bump it up to a correct/collector grade. I'm angry that I'm late into the Garand game and missed out on the correct/collector grades but happy the service specials are still around.
