Well I went and did something I hope I am not sorry for. Long before the "Anointed One" even thought about throwing his turban into the ring for the Presidency, I started looking at the AR-15. I was not really into buying one as I have an SKS that I dearly love and have been shooting for many years. But I am beginning to believe that if you done own at least one AR-15, you are unAmerican. I walked into my favorite gunshop yesterday, who had been out of any semi-auto rifles for several months now and not able to get any more. As I was walking in they were pulling a Bushmaster Carbine with telescoping stock out of the box. The owner opened it and then opened the case. I asked to see it and pulled the stock out to it's full length. I really like the light weight of the gun so I went ahead an bought it. They cut me a pretty good deal according to what I have seen here on the forum as far as prices go.

My question is did I do right by buying a Bushmaster brand. I notice it has a one (1) year warranty and the other brands, mostly have lifetime warranties. I noticed that the rear sight is all the way to the left, so my question is doe they test fire these at the factory and if so...should I be concerned???

This is only a plinking, fun gun but if I really get to like it it may get much more use.

Anything I should be looking for, that is usually problematic, since it is a Bushmaster brand?

I am new at this and am really asking for some help here. If possible just facts and little or no personal opinions. They tend to get swayed by personal experience with only one gun and never given the chance to try again...you know the "One Bad Apple spoiling the whole bunch" scenario.

Bushmaster is a very good brand with a reputation for high quality rifles. It's owned by the same company that owns Remington, DPMS, Cobb, Thompson, etc. It may say 1 year warranty, but they will help you if you have problems after that.

Good purchase!

Anyways, back on topic:

I've always been a fan of the AK platforms, but if I had to buy an AR-15, it would definitely be Bushmaster or some other equivalent brand. Ya done good

Sorry folks,

I lent my camera to one of my staff for a wedding this weekend and she just brought it back to me, so here are the pictures:

Bushmaster makes a fine rifle.

Take that rail doohicky off and shoot it with the standard irons.

I was always told the top 3 makers were Colt Armalite Bushmaster.

Never have gone wrong with any of them. rest well you did good.

I am not a huge fan of the AR, but they are as American as apple-pie and in my limited experience with a friend's Modular Carbine, Bushmaster makes a pretty good example of one.

These days, any decent deal you can get on a decent rifle of that type is a job well done and worth keeping.

I say you done good...

I have one and its my favorite rifle and I have LOTS of rifles.

Yes you will find that a huge problem will arise. AR Addiction. youll find that you will be spending all your hard earned money on your AR. all your free time will be spent with your new addiction. you family will leave you and your soul belong to the AR now :neener:

Thanks to all of you for letting me know I did not get taken. I could not find the model number on their website, so I called and found out that it is a special order for one of their big distributors. Basically it's a Police Carbine with the A1 designation. Looking forward to getting it to the range this weekend for a test of function and accuracy.

looks like you got a nice one -congrats

answer to the sight question is tricky as ive not been to their facility , but i know the folks at DPMS , the rifles are assembled and fired for function ,

id guess most go out in the neutral position for sight adjustment but its up to you to ZERO your rifle , follow the instructions in the manual , they are quite simple and easy to do ,

good luck

not as good as others, but Bushy does make one heck of a bbl, and since you have the a1 style top handle, take the scope rail off, and plug away , old school style, like the above dude said!!!

I will shoot it old style some, this weekend, but I don't have to take the rail off to do so. It is a see thru style with plenty of room. I do want to mount a scope on it to see just what kind of accuracy I can expect from the gun. Not looking for a target rifle, but hoping it will shoot where the sights are placed consistiently.

This was why I got my first AR and 1911, and am currently eyeing an M1 Garand. There is something to it.

Since you asked us to refrain from personal opinion, I won't share that Bushmaster is a popular AR and people like them as much as any other (I own other AR's, but would not hesitate to buy a Bushy).

Back to concrete info: I don't know if you've seen it yet, but there is a pretty good interview with George Kollitides, director of the holding company that owns Bushmaster (and Reminton, and Marlin, and others), in this month's issue of American Rifleman. He seems like a solid guy with a good business sense.

Oh, regarding the A1 configuration -- my first AR was an A1. I liked it, but couldn't wait to get a "modern" flat top. My second AR was an A3-style, with a flat-top receiver and rail. Well, my new AR quickly got 1) expensive and 2) heavy. I really like my simple, uncluttered, effective, lightweight A1.
