Okay... I have been in the market for an M4/AR-15 for some time now. Colt would be #1 preference, however, due to limited funds I'm forced to look away.

My question is which is the next best brand. I have heard Rock River and Bushmaster....???

I have heard Bushmaster is least accurate that RR & Colt.

So, as of this moment... Rock River would be my choice seeing as I can get an Entry Tactical for under $900.

Looking for suggestions and comments, I AM OPEN MINDED!!!!

My S&W M&P-15 has been perfect in all aspects and only cost $20 more than the Bushmaster M4gery. Before I stumbled on that deal I was looking at a Rock River, they also make excellent rifles. Any of the big names should do just fine.

Basically same rifles, different names. Go with the one that suits your budget. Trust me, you will not leave it in the stock configuration long.

S&W M&P

Forgot to mention the S&W M&P. How do these favor against others. I was very interested in them.

if you know how or a friend that know how to put one together build it i built one on a RRA lower and it cost around $700 could how built it a little cheaper but got tried looking for cheaper parts . i own a colt and i like the RRA better but thats just me they all shoot about the same

If my Bushmaster M4gery is inaccurate I haven't noticed it.

Besides, compared to what in what kind of shooting with what kind of ammo and under what conditions by whom?

My biggest complaint with the gun was the stock heavy, creepy trigger which is typical of all standard grade ARs. I put in a match trigger & hammer and at this point it is a better gun than my 1980s Colt CAR-15 was. Which in turn was better than my 1966 issue one...

"They? Who the hell is THEY?" ..from "the Wild Bunch".

I own 4 AR's and quite frankly don't see much if any differences in them at all. They are as follows:

Bushmaster XM15-E2s with 20" HBAR
Olympic K3B wit h16" HBAR
RRA lower/FNMI upper with 20" barrel 1/7 twist
Sendra lower/Colt A1 upper

All have worked and are accurate. I don't worry about brand names and much as function. I am sure that there is some differences, but I would trust my life to any of them. Even though The Olympic is he cheapest, their barrels have a very good reputation for accuracy but are not chrome lined. Lack of chrome lining is not a big deal for me.

I currently run Rock Rivers and have for several years. I have been very pleased with them. Have had no failures in any classes with them.

My set up: RRA lower, RRA upper green flattop, Sully stock, Tango Down grip, single point sling, Troy BUIS, Aimpoint ML-2, PRI charging handle. I kept the stock triggers as I've seen 2 stages break in class.

Caveat: have used Bushmaster in one class (Awerbuck HITT), no problems whatsoever with weapon, did have one dead Remington round. As well, I own several ARs by different makers, including Colt. Many people are making quality ARs now (including Stag and Smith). I may purchase a Smith AR if my XCR does not come through.

Most of the manufacturers put out a good product these days. I usually recommend that people buy based on what options they want rather than who the manufacturer is. For example, I am a big fan of the midlength gas system on a 16" barrel... if you want something like that, then you are automatically limited to RRA, Armalite, Sabre Defence, CMMG, or one of the custom AR builders.

The second thing I recommend is to buy from a good dealer that you trust; because every manufacturer still puts out the occasional lemon and the dealer has a lot more leverage to get the problem fixed than you do. You may not get the cheapest prices from these dealers; but the peace of mind is worth the slight increase. After all, the guy who sells for $20 over his cost may have real good prices; but you can bet he isn't going to spend hours with the dealer or hours diagnosing and fixing the rifle he just sold you when his total profit is $20.

I have been shooting my RRA middy since mid summer...just about 600 rounds through it before they closed my local range (but that's another thread :scrutiny: ). I been surprised w/ its out of box accuracy & build quality....recommend them highly :D:cool:

I picked up a Rock River a while back ago and it puts every other AR I have ever shot to shame. The quality of fit and finish is top notch, accuracy is unreal, and the thing that sold me at the store was the two stage trigger. Pulling the trigger on a RRA rifle is like closing the door on a BMW (anyone that has ever drove a bimmer knows what I mean).

bushmaster tests their weapons like no other company does. For example, they test all their bbls, ALL OF THEM. not one out of one lot, or some at random. They also perform 3 diff tests; airgauge, magnetic, and microscopic. if the bbl, isn't within .0001 tolerances during any test, it is tossed, and melted, not fixed.

You didn't mention Armalite. I have had my 20" Armalite for several years. I have had to learn my lessons with cleaning and magazines, but the rifle is accurate for me and works very well. The only times I have had problems with the rifle is when I let it get dirty and gummed up shooting Wolf ammo or once I used some crappy gun show special ammo that dropped primer pockets into the actions and got a sliver of brass into the bolt assembly. That was a lot of fun. I'll admit I have never really tried to push the accuracy much, but that is something I will be working on the next few months or year.

I got a flat top with removable front sight and and handle. If I ever get a 16" rifle, I think I'll just stay simple and get one with the carry handle and just mount an AimPoint up there.

After the AWB expired, I bought a collapseable stock, but I have never put it on. With the 20" barrel I really haven't had any desire to get a shorter stock. I might do it differently with at 16" carbine though.
