My Entry Into The Famous Black Rifle World

OP: visit www.m4carbine.net for technical information on the AR platform. "yea, it's great!" isn't a good or reliable confirmation of the performance of any weapon system.

bushmasters have reliability issues that can turn up when the weapon is pushed. if you're not ever going to push the gun, you probably wont have any issues with it. but i strongly recommend you do these basic upgrades.

bushmaster barrels can be inconsistently chambered. if you're going to fire higher pressure 5.56 you should have the chamber reamed.

bushy bolt-carrier groups (BCGs) have a few issues, and it's best just to replace with a whole new quality BCG like LMT or BCM or Colt, but you can get away with simply replacing the bolt (same manufacturers) and re-torquing and staking the carrier key. at the VERY least, get a BCM extractor spring/insert upgrade for $5 at www.bravocompanyusa.com

check your castle-nut and make sure it's tight and staked.

if you don't know what some of these terms mean then you definately should check out m4carbine.net- you'll learn TONS about the weapon.

congrats on the buy, welcome to the club. buy up a few cases of Wolf .223 and shoot the dog**** out of it

I have really got it bad for an AR....but the wife said no! What she don't know won't hurt her.

Thanks bkb,

Already found the site and spent about 4 hours there yesterday, just blown away by all the info.

I did restake the carrier key cap screws & the castle nut, after checking to see if it was tight.

I am not planning on attending any AR training courses as the one Uncle Sam provided is more than sufficient for my needs, so I am hoping the Bushy will hold up.

Just went to the range and it shoots like a dream. Factory dialed in at 50yards. Nice tight groups with Remington 45gr. JHPs.

Mikey likes it!!!

bigmike45,

You have the same exact Bushmaster I bought.

I HIGHLY suggest you get some National Match sights (as I have) or at least some A2 sights on there. It sucks having two small apertures that are the same size.

I also installed an "H" buffer and a BCM M16 bolt carrier group (among other minor changes). I saved the Bushmaster OEM carrier/bolt as a back-up. I like the KISS concept of the A1/C7 upper. The rear sight stays where it needs to be and doesn't get fumbled around easily like the A2.

outing myself? as what, an obama supporter?

i don't think he was the best person for the job, but i also don't think mccain was. the fact is, he got the job and i'm going to support him. honestly, it doesn't matter what i think, but there is no need to throw a racial slur in a description of the president.

i'm a social liberal and and econ. conservative so i don't really give %^&* what you think.

I am excited when I can post pics of my new black rifles. But I still am setting them up with optics, so I will wait :D.

YOu can start by turning in those nice, pretty evil black rifles

Nice rifle, Mikey! Congrats. I have the same rifle, but with the Izzy permanently attached comp. My rear sight is cranked over to the left quite a bit too (I sighted it in myself, and had to pass the last mark once to get it sighted in).

Those A1 uppers are nice, aren't they? There's alot to be said about the KISS carbines. I've had no problems out of mine in the (almost) 2 years that I've had it.

Here's mine, shortly after I brought it back home from the store.

Only thing I've added to it (so far) is a CAA grip.

I personally think that if you don't own an AR-15 you don't own a very accurate, but very finicky, glorified .22.

Buy something in .30 cal. It will actually do what rifles should do--- kill their target.

I didn't realize that the .223/5.56 round is considered "Less-Lethal" like rubber buckshot or something. You learn something new every day!
