buy up a few cases of Wolf .223

bkb0000, why recommend all the pricey and probably unnecessary upgrades and then recommend the cheapest ammo around? I don't want to knock Wolf too much. I use it myself sometimes, but the recommendation seems inconsistent, especially knowing that there are some rifles that don't get along too well with steel-cased ammo. At the most, I'd recommend only a few boxes (not cases) of Wolf to see how it runs in his rifle.

Thanks Crow1108,

I really like that finger groove grip on yours.

Are those clips 40 rounders to the far right??

Guys, I probably will not run Wolf. I tried it in my SKS, that will run everything else without any problems, and it jammed upon feeding, had extraction problems and was generally a PIA to work with. Another thing is I don't believe you can reload the steel cased Wolf, or so I have heard. I plan to reload once I get a set of dies for my press.

I have run American Eagle Tactical & Remington JSP & JHP through the AR without any problems and they are all very accurate. I think I will stay with them until I start reloading.

I personally think that if you don't own an AR-15 you don't own a very accurate, but very finicky, glorified .22.

Buy something in .30 cal. It will actually do what rifles should do--- kill their target.

internet commando. hey lets make a deal. you stand 50 yards away and let me shoot you once with a 5.56 round and if you live you can have my gun collection. haha

to the OP, i would swap out the A1 for a flat top upper. yes irons are fun, but a flat top is more versatile and you can always add irons or a carry handle. nice rifle though. i'll post a pic of my set up soon to give you an idea of what i'm talking about.

Funny, and here I thought all those M-16s and M-4s were chambered in .223 and 5.56 all these years. Didn't know that the military was still using 30.06 all this time...
And don't knock the .22lr... many a deer have been put down permanantly with that round.

I HIGHLY suggest you get some National Match sights (as I have) or at least some A2 sights on there. It sucks having two small apertures that are the same size.

I strongly agree with Rubber Duck's advice. I would add that the eventual addition of a match style trigger (like Rock River's 2-stage NM unit) will make tight groups much easier to obtain.

pricey? even if he does everything i've recommended he's only into it $230 to have a better weapon than thousands of contractors are using in Iraq as we speak. that's not pricey, that's high-speed. oops, $245, including a GOOD spring-loaded punch for staking the castle-nut.

what rifles dont get along with steel? the barrel and the bolt face are the only two parts of the rifle that make any contact with the cartridge, and i can tell you from a lot of first-hand experience that Noveske, White Oak, LMT, Sabre, Colt, CMMG, and various other barrels all love wolf. further more, I can tell you from lots of first hand experience that BCM, Colt, LMT and YM bolts all love wolf too.

if you dont shoot much (less than 300 rounds a month) or you reload a lot, dont use wolf. if you shoot a lot (500+) and dont reload, use wolf... unless you get your ammo from your employer, you can't afford not to. thats about all there is to it. :)

They are USGI 30 rounders. One has magpul innards with the orange follower. I've collected a significant number of magazines since :).

If by .22, you mean one that has about 10x the powder and will fragment, then sure. As for finicky, mine has shot everything from Wolf to Black Hills without a hiccup.

And don't knock the .22lr... many a deer have been put down permanantly with that round.

And many a person. IIRC, someone mentioned that it's the round that has been used in the most killings in the 20th century.

Google the use of a suppressed High Standard .22 in Vietnam.
