My favorite gun shop is cooler then I thought

Well there is a very nice local gun shop here in Milwaukee Wisconsin, that I have gone to many times. They are always knoledgable, good prices, and they have the best indoor range I have been at. Well after checking out their website, I found this under the links page:

The High Road--the best online gun forum in the world.

I would have to agree with what they said :D That is all, I was just impressed that my favorite shop also likes my favorite firearm website :)

It is not proper to end a sentence with a preposition.


Just kidding, I'm not really the Grammar Gestapo. Great to hear that others like THR as much as I do! Can we get some T-shirts or something? Maybe have a THR sunday? Everyone wear their THR shirts on the same day?
 
Right now its easy for me to go there, however once the freeway system in down town milwaukee gets totaly shut down, it will likely take double the time. Still under 40 minutes though :D
 
Its about 40-45 minute ride for me too. Where I'm located (near HWY 45 and 41) I have Gander Mountain 8 minutes to the south of me in Germantown and Bill's Sporting Goods and Midwestern Shooter supply 15 minutes north of me in Lomira, so I don't get down to that area too often.
 
100% agreed - The Shooter's Shop is a great place. No knock on the other shops and ranges in the area, but TSS is just a cut above. Although I have to admit I'm biased; the first time I ever fired a gun, it was a Ruger MkII under the tutelage of an employee there (though I'm embarassed to admit I'm not certain of his name...Pete, I think?). He did a great job of tolerating my first-time jitters...and the fluorescent tube I shattered with a ricochet off the target hanger. (If we had a blushing smiley, I'd put it here)

Best $40 I ever spent, getting that "firearms 101" and range time there.

Unfortunately, when I moved from Bay View to the Worker's Paradise (aka the People's Democratic Republic of Madison), The Shooter's Shop became very out of the way for me. The length of my commute (still working in Mequon) means I don't get range time after work, and Milwaukee is too far to drive to hit a range on weekends.
 
I have to give a "thumbs up" to the Shooter's Shop too. My favorite gun shop and they are only about 15 minutes away for me. They have a nice range there, and you can place your targets at whatever distance you want.

It is also nice when you ask a gun shop employee to order you a Mossberg 590A1 and you don't get a "What do ya need that for?" While getting one of these: :scrutiny:

Good group of guys there, and they'll continue to get my business.

I teach college English for a living.

"My favorite gun shop is cooler than I thought" is a complete sentence.

"Shop" is the subject and "is" is the verb.

Also, there is no such hard-and-fast rule against putting prepositions at the end of sentences.

My all-time favorite come back to the "no preposition at the end of a sentence" chestnut comes from none other than Sir Winston Churchill.

Once, when he was so corrected for a preposition at the end of a sentence, he quipped:

"This is the type of pedantry up with which I shall not put."

hillbilly, if you teach college English then you should realize that "then" is not interchangeable with "than".

I try not to get pedantic on grammar, but every so often I snap... :D

And expose to a bunch of seasoned pros my wholly unimpressive sixth-month-newbie shooting "skills"? Wave my meager two-pistol "collection" out in front of God and everybody? Be forced to potentially defend in person the stuff I spout online? Sounds like a good idea to me. :D

I can pretty reliably be there weeknights by 5:30 or so. Weekends, of course, are more flexible.

Like meathammer, I haven't been shooting in way too long (so my sixth-mont-newbishness is actually more like three- or four-month-newbishness). This would be a great excuse.
 
I've taken the liberty of going ahead and starting a Shooter's Shop THR meet thread over in Rallying Point (not trying to steal your thunder, cracked butt, hope you don't mind). Hopefully, if there are area members who aren't reading this thread, they may catch that one. So chime in when you get a chance if you're interested.

I've never (as far as I know) met any High Roaders, and I'd like to.
 
Control Group - every time I shoot there I chuckle to myself when they remind that there is a 3 dollar charge for shot lights. I could never imagine how someone would hit one :neener: :neener:

I would rather suggest a weekend shoot at McMillers out near eagle, 12 dollars all day for 25 yrd 50 yrd 100 yrd and soon to be 200 or 300 yrd range. Also an archery range and a trap area. Its a little bit of a haul, but an awesome facility if you have never been there.

In my (meager) defense, it was the third magazine I had ever fired, and he had told me specifically to just "pull the trigger as fast as you can." I took him a bit too literally, it seems, and didn't bother worrying about bringing the muzzle back down after each shot.

This had predictable results. Or at least, predictable, apparently, to anyone who wasn't me.

In any event, I've never been to McMillers, though it sounds like I should go. I've been looking for a public outdoor range for a while now (I've owned a Mosin M44 for five months now, and it still hasn't been fired since 1945); I'll make a point of checking it out in the near future. Thanks!
 
[patting myself on the back] I put the link to THR on the Shooters Shop's Site [/pat]. I figured that, as long as I've been giving them a real deal on the site, there's a certain amount of freedom for me.

As far as a Shooters Shop THR rally goes, I'll show up, but I won't shoot. I've probably only shot a pistol once or twice in the last nine months and, believe me, it shows. ;)
