Well, the wait was longer than expected, the cost was more than anticipated, but it's done! I probably won't get a chance to shoot it until tomorrow though. I've only got a few rounds loaded so it won't be a big deal anyway. Just enough to check for function and see if my load data will work for fireforming purposes. Here's the parts breakdown:

Templar 18" stainless barrel
PWS flash suppressor
Larue gas block
Vltor MUR upper
Vltor CASV handguard/rail system
Noveske N4 lower
DPMS lower parts kit
JP 3.5lb trigger
DPMS charging handle w/ Badger tactical latch
KNS pin set
Magpul MIAD grip
Magpul PRS stock
Larue bipod adapter
Harris bipod
ADM Recon 35mm QD scope mount
IOR 2-12x32 scope
Vltor CASV-FS flip-up front sight
Matech 600m flip-up rear sight
Specter 3-point sling

I've got a Young Manufacturing NM carrier on order, but it'll probably be another few weeks so I cannibalized a Bushmaster carrier from another AR.

This is my first AR build. I was a bit intimidated at first (I am no gunsmith by ANY stretch of the imagination), but I have to say I'm pretty pleased with the outcome (assuming it actually works). It wasn't nearly as difficult as I was anticipating. This definitely fits the "why didn't I do this sooner?" category!

Ah, it's beautiful.

I'd love to build my own but would have no idea where to start.

Did you refinish the CASV or are they available with the green finish now?

Damn nice job! You definately did it RIGHT. Glad to see that you are trying to be environmentally sound by going green!!!!

...By the by, you could allways do a functions check, that'll at least tell you
if the 'innards' work, before you get to the range.

Woah....:what: Nice setup. I'm building my 1st AR (first build, not first AR) soon and I'm definately going to be copying yours :neener:

Crap, I knew I was going to regret adding it all up...

The rifle, plus 8 mags (4 5-rounders and 4 17-rounders) came to $2,431. Add the scope and mount and that brings it up to $3,855. That doesn't include the various tools I had to buy (this was my first build), the reloading dies, or shipping cost for all the parts. Of course I could offset some of the cost of the tools and reloading dies by building another 6.5 Grendel though!

:D

how come your jp trigger has kns pins? my jp trigger came with screws. did they change?

Very nice looking rifle, full of upgrades, I like the scope best. What was the total cost? $3500+? Let us know how it shoots!

Very nice...thought about a build like that myself, the only thing that stopped me was finding a decent gas piston upper (not a conversion). :)

anyone shot a deer with a grendel yet? if anyone has popped anything "deer sized" even can you post some pics of the damage? i REAAAAAAAAAALY want an upper that i can take deer hunting! sigh....

Intending to make a piston-upper build in 6.5 in the near future.

Not sure if it can live up to that beast you have there though! That is one awesome weapon you have.

Please let me know how it turns out (I want pics :D), I am still considering one...if I can find the right parts (GP is a prerequisite even if I do loose 1/10 MOA accuracy). :)
