There ARE people who re-enact the Franco-Prussian War and WWI.Came across them on the net about 5yrs ago.
But there`s nothing like that anywhere near me.
Civil War Reenactment is big here and so is the War of 1812 renactments. I`m not a reenactor, nor do I play a reenactor in REAL Life, but one year I let myself get roped into reenacting a scene from the War of 1812.
I got a call from a really good friend saying he had to renact something from the war of 1812.Problem was he was one man short. The night before the man he was depending on had an accident and in the hospital.
What about the uniform, I asked? He said wear a pair of brown work pants, brown boots & leave the rest to him.He had a green rifleman`s coat that I could just barely get into, a tall black hat and a wide black belt with cartdrige box and tomahawk on it.At least the belt fit.
I looked like a very confused big guy who was stuffed into a uniform 2 sizes too small for him. He assured me that was exactly the way most new recruits looked in those days. God bless him, a real gentleman. I have a picture of it. I look at now and then.I used to laugh when I saw how silly I looked but NOW since my friend passed on, I say Thanks for the memory.

I doubt many of us reach old age without going through such things that seem silly or embarassing at the time but later we smile about.

...Back in Ontario at the main office when I was transferred there was this Christmas party where the guy organizing the fun and frolics decided to have a "beauty pageant". But instead of the ladys of the office he thought it would be more fun to do this with some of the guys dressed in drag. Well being newly transffered from the west coast guess who got dragooned into being Miss BC.....

... the long time secretary for the office was helping in the back room to get us ready. Well, she wasn't any help at all because she couldn't stand up from laughing so hard.... :D

I'm SURE that each of you guys have a story like this from sometime in your past.... Right? Guys? Where'd everyone go? :D
