There ARE people who re-enact the Franco-Prussian War and WWI.Came across them on the net about 5yrs ago.
But there`s nothing like that anywhere near me.
Civil War Reenactment is big here and so is the War of 1812 renactments. I`m not a reenactor, nor do I play a reenactor in REAL Life, but one year I let myself get roped into reenacting a scene from the War of 1812.
I got a call from a really good friend saying he had to renact something from the war of 1812.Problem was he was one man short. The night before the man he was depending on had an accident and in the hospital.
What about the uniform, I asked? He said wear a pair of brown work pants, brown boots & leave the rest to him.He had a green rifleman`s coat that I could just barely get into, a tall black hat and a wide black belt with cartdrige box and tomahawk on it.At least the belt fit.
I looked like a very confused big guy who was stuffed into a uniform 2 sizes too small for him. He assured me that was exactly the way most new recruits looked in those days. God bless him, a real gentleman. I have a picture of it. I look at now and then.I used to laugh when I saw how silly I looked but NOW since my friend passed on, I say Thanks for the memory.
