-ewww! I feel so dirty!

Truth be told, I have never voted for a Democrat before, ever! But Gov. (D) Dave Freudenthal received the NRA's blessing as he has a solid A record for defending the Second Amendment. Under his watch, the State of Wyoming has actually sued the BATF...and won! The result is that CCW holders, having gone through a criminal background check to get their CCW do not have to go though another background check for each gun they purchase.

National Rifle Association Endorses Freudenthal For Re-election

The rest of the ballot was pretty interesting for a new Wyomingian - most of the local government was held by Republicans who were unchallenged (no one running against them). There were no three-page-long amendments that were veiled attempts to raise taxes or otherwise trick voters into voting for something they would not vote for if it was simply stated. (In fact, one of the three proposed Amendments was one sentence long).

I moved here last April and am very glad that I did. I urge everyone here to consider moving to a Free State. When I moved out of Colorado it was due to political frustration. Now Colorado will not get my vote, my taxes, that of my business or the taxes from my business partners and any future employees we will have.

If the best and brightest citizens moved out of California the state would collapse in ten years.

So, if you live in a Slave State where the political powers that be simply refuse to uphold the Constitution, on this Election Day consider voting with your feet.

Was this on top of the NICS? Everyone in every state has to go through the FBI background check, so I assume Wyoming had two? Weird. I always though of Wyoming as a very gun friendly state.

Wyoming IS a very gun-friendly state - The State sued the Fed to *remove* the double check.

Here in Texas, I don't have to undergo another background check. I show my CHL, fill out the 4473 and I'm done. No call, nothing.

On a local level, I have no problem with voting for Democrats (if I ever found one I agreed with). On a national level, at least for the forseeable future, I will not vote Democrat, even if he or she is endorsed by the NRA. First, one issue is not big enough for me to give the National Democrat party an extra voice in Congress. Second, I don't trust that they will vote their conscience. I think that 9 times out of 10 they will be pressured to vote with the rest of the Democrats.

Welcome to the Cowboy State Fletchette! Glad to hear you voted. I agree with your perspective on 2 of the Amendments, although I did vote for giving the Mineral Fund a permanent status. That way, if (and I believe eventually there will be) a liberal money filching State Legislature (like there's not one now :D ) they won't be able to totally p..s away the money. Anyway, hope you like your new found "freedom". Wyoming is absolutely one of the most gun-friendly States I've ever lived in. And a thumbs up to the sitting Governor, even if he is a Democrat. He's one of the very, very, small number of D's I have ANY respect for what-so-ever. He actually stood up for gunowners and fought against the BATF goon squad. But, even with that, he's not perfect. But hell, neither am I  . Where you calling home these days?

Flechette - What part of WY are you in? I'm contemplating a move to the Cowboy State. I like the idea of open spaces, small towns, no hour-long traffic jams... and, of course, freedom, smaller government, and a minimum of silly laws.

I lived in Gillette for two years.

It was really great for the three weeks of "not-winter" around late July every year.

I just couldn't do --60 wind chills, and 24 inches of snow on April 28.

Too much of a southern boy, I reckon.

I did, however, learn to ride motorcycles in Gillette, tried trout fishing, pursued mule deer across the plains in the nearby Black Hills, and learned to love seeing more antelope than cars on the highway.

I vote for the best candidate, i.e. the one that shares my point of views and stands on the issues, whether they are Democrats or Republicans.

Remember, there are also pro-gun Democrats and anti-gun Republicans....

Yup. It is like this in Wyoming, now. The Feds tried to make it so that everyone, even CCW holders, had to get a background check every time you buy a gun. Wyoming sued in court to stop the Feds. I don't know how that affected laws in Texas, but it maybe due to the Wyoming challange that you do not have to go through multiple background checks.

Chugwater! Thanks for the welcome!

Also, I did not vote on the Mineral Fund issue as I did not know anything about it, but I am largely against increasing taxes inch by inch.

Voting for a Democrat is a first for me, though. I have to reward the guy for going out of his way to do battle with the ATF. :)
