My first wheel gun: S&W 686P w/ 6" barrel!

Well, actually my second. My dad gave me his Colt Diamondback a few years back, but it was practically unfired, so I've only brought it to the range a couple of times.

I never really thought I'd get into revolvers, being a semi-auto kind of guy, but there was a sale at Turner's, so I decided to round out the collection a bit.

This gun is accurate! I thought the .357 magnum was going to kick some, but both the Fiocchi .38 an .357 shot mildly IMHO (prolly the 6" barrel). The long sight radius no doubt contributed to its accuracy, but it was still a very pleasant surprise. The trigger in double action is smooth, in single action it is light and crisp. Very nice. Nicer than some of my autoloaders w/ trigger jobs.

Yes, it's got the safety lock zit. Not a really big deal in my book, though others have vociferously disagreed.

I removed the Hogue grip and opened up the side panel to install a Wolff trigger return spring, slicing my finger on the sharp edges of the panel in the process. Ouch. When I got a glimpse of the internals, I went:
:what: "Okaaay.....this is way more complicated than I expected." I closed it back up and decided the Wolff spring wasn't necessary. Trigger felt fine as is, and it'll prolly get better.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the gun. Can't believe I've been missing out on this facet of firearms. Now I've got an itch for a Python, blue, 4" barrel, to pair up w/ my dad's Diamondback. Seems the older I get, the more I like 1911's, revolvers, and BBQ.

:D

I agree. What you got is wheelguns. A hogleg is a Single Action Army. And no I don't include Rugers.

Oops. Sorry. So new to wheel guns, I'm getting the terminology all wrong.

:banghead:

Congrat's to all of you new S&W 686 owner's. :D

You will quickly find that with the 6" tube,
this is one  firearm. Mine is not ported,
and its the 6", six-shot model. I just can't seem
to warm up to a seven or eight shot .357's. :uhoh: :(

Ala Dan, I hear you about the 7 & 8 shots. I really didn't want a 686P, so I didn't get one. :p

I love my new 686 4". Thanks for the congrats!

The S&W model 686 in any configuration is a very
awesome weapon. A 4" model is the last revolver
I toted as a LEO; before transitioning to semiautos.

I will be shooting my 6" 686 tomorrow morning at
our local PD range; nothing major, just a little bit
of informal target practice. You know I have to
keep the proficency up :D (Laughing Loudly).

Best Wishes,

Seven, actually. 686P, or plus, as in plus one shot.

Okay, hog legs, wheel guns, cannons (aren't those the .500's?), what's the correct lingo here? Not being of the revolver congoscenti, I always just lumped all revolver terms together.

I take it a hog leg is what Eastwood uses in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, right?
