My first wheel gun: S&W 686P w/ 6" barrel!
Well, actually my second. My dad gave me his Colt Diamondback a few years back, but it was practically unfired, so I've only brought it to the range a couple of times.
I never really thought I'd get into revolvers, being a semi-auto kind of guy, but there was a sale at Turner's, so I decided to round out the collection a bit.
This gun is accurate! I thought the .357 magnum was going to kick some, but both the Fiocchi .38 an .357 shot mildly IMHO (prolly the 6" barrel). The long sight radius no doubt contributed to its accuracy, but it was still a very pleasant surprise. The trigger in double action is smooth, in single action it is light and crisp. Very nice. Nicer than some of my autoloaders w/ trigger jobs.
Yes, it's got the safety lock zit. Not a really big deal in my book, though others have vociferously disagreed.
I removed the Hogue grip and opened up the side panel to install a Wolff trigger return spring, slicing my finger on the sharp edges of the panel in the process. Ouch. When I got a glimpse of the internals, I went:
"Okaaay.....this is way more complicated than I expected." I closed it back up and decided the Wolff spring wasn't necessary. Trigger felt fine as is, and it'll prolly get better.
Overall, I'm very impressed with the gun. Can't believe I've been missing out on this facet of firearms. Now I've got an itch for a Python, blue, 4" barrel, to pair up w/ my dad's Diamondback. Seems the older I get, the more I like 1911's, revolvers, and BBQ.
