Inboard mudboats dont do well in sand, gravel or hard ground. The propeller would get ruined quickly. it is mainly a LA coastal thing our marshes are mainly a thick layer of organic matter over deeper sand deposits. Most mudboats are custom made in small welding shops. They can be had with small air cooled engines all the way up to water cooled V8s. The larger more powerful mudboats can almost cut there own path in the marsh. Many land companies ban the larger more powerful mudboats as they can damage wetlands. They are very useful in areas where thick aquatic vegetation(water hyacinth) blocks waterways. In thisck vegertation long lails and other surface drives will not easily negotiate thick floating vegetation.
