Cool forum. Just bought a used SOCOM today to fill my .308 needs. I have a few AR15's but really wanted a bigger punch.

Looks great, who makes that stock? It isn't on SA's website as an option. Well I didn't find it at least. It looks very nice.

welcome, for your first m1a=awesome. i beleive its called JE stocks

Love the stock. Looks like it is adjustable in the X, Y, Z axis, and probably in time and alternate dimensions. Should give you a consistent stock weld.

As for the short barrel. Be prepared for a God Awful fireball, followed by a God Awful noise.

If you don't like it, you can always have it rebarreled with a 22" barrel.

That's a short barrel for a scoped rifle.

It's an odd combination but with the .308 the velocity loss won't matter much out to 300 yards or so which is where most plinkers live.

You're gonna lose what, maybe 180-200 fps with that compared to a 22" barrel? If I remember right anyway.

Nice rifle, begging for suppressor :)

I'm going to be getting the same stock but on a Super Match. I love the look of the SOCOM but I just need the longer barrel.

Congrats on getting a bad ass rifle. If you don't mind tellin, how much did you pay for that set up?

Thanks. The stock is an aluminum JAE 100. The stock has most of the available options added on. The scope is a 2x12x32 IOR Valdada. The rifle was sent back to Springfield for a match trigger setting. It ran me 2800.00 I figured brand new with everything would have cost me over 3500.00 Only a couple hundred rounds through it(he says:)) Looks brand new. Well taken care of by a retired policeman.

Hey, I bought my first M1A today too, a Springfield Scout.

Very interesting combination, SOCOM in a JAE stock, but I really like the way it looks. What are the specs on the scope? Looks like an IOR in badger rings, but what are the details?

Edit: guess this thread kept going while I was watching TV. oops

Awesome. Here's the poop.

M8 Lit reticle. ior_illum_mp8.jpg

Weight (oz): 20
Illuminated MP-8

Length (in): 10.75
Eye Relief (in): 3.5
Field of View @ 100yds (ft): 69 - 12
Exit Pupil (mm): 16 - 2.8
MOA: 1/4
Lens Coating: Fully Multi-Coated

Not sure who made the rings but he said he paid over 100.00 for them. Couldn't get standard ones work for some reason.

Very nice looking rifle. ;)
Personally, I'd take off that scout scope mount and replace the handguard with a solid one.

Nice!

Are you able to use a flash suppressor in your state?
Also, what does your rig weigh?

You also lose the ability to shoot the 175 grain bullet. The socom is pretty much only good with 147 or 150 grainers which cut your range down quite a bit. But other than that I want one too.

Nice M1A. The JAE is indeed a great stock, particularly for building a precision rifle as it doesn't require bedding. It is heavier though.

That photo in post #13... Is that a 5 mil hold over on... HORSES?! :)

Very nice rifle. It is, indeed, begging for a suppressor.

Now you just need to buy another one for long-range work. :)

Thanks. I doubt I'll have much of a chance to shoot over 200 yards around here so this should suit me fine. Here's a few more pics.
