This is me and my grandpa, his name is Fredrick LeBrun Graham, and he was one of the greatest people I have ever known. This is also one of my favorite memories, not only of him,but of my whole life.He died yesterday. I was 14yrs old in this picture,I am now 42. I always wanted this pistol, its nothing real fancy and appears to be pretty cheap. However due to some unfortunate circumstances,as well as unsavory people(person) it is missing. If some of yall could tell me what it is I would appreciate it.Since I cant have that one I would like to find another like it.

My condolences on the death of your grandfather. The photo is too small for me to tell. Maybe someone else can make it out.

Not sure on the pistol but sorry to hear about your grandpa.
My blessing are with you and your family. Hope you get the pistol or at least one like it.

Sorry I can't ID the revolver and very sorry about your GrandPa passing away. It is good to know he passed down his love of firearms/shooting to you and I bet you will do the same for someone else.

Caliber would help, as would a description, such as how it loaded, capacity, type of action (it looks DA), color and material of grips, etc.

I might postulate it's an H&R, but more info is required.

Sorry about your Grandpa.

Sorry to hear about your Grandpa. Not everyone has someone who is cherished after death.
My dad died 6-7 years ago & I find I miss him more now than when he first passed. :( Lots & lots of really fond memories - mostly of hunting, fishing & camping.

Can't recognize the revolver...but I do recognize your loss of your grandfather. I hunted and plinked very few times with my gran'dad...they,too, are fond memories. He was a good pistol shot( beat me every time). Of all the cousins I have, some how I managed to own his .22 rifle! A nice little .22 Rem. single shot. I wish I could identify the gun for you because I understand that need.

bluecowdawg,

I downloaded the image and tried to zoom in on the gun but the image quality is too low.

Your original scan, before you uploaded it to THR, is probably higher quality. Do you have the capability to zoom in on the gun (Photoshop) and upload just that part? That may help people to ID it. If not, if you wish, I can pm you my email address and send me the original scan and I can try to do it. You want to start with the highest quality image before zooming in.

Agree with SS, going to take a better picture to say any more than "generic double action revolver."

Sorry for your loss.

But I hope you furnish YOUR kids with eye and ear protection.
My Dad and Uncle didn't me, which gave me a head start on the tinnitus and 40 dB drop I now enjoy.

I lost my grandpa this year too. He was WWII vet and raised 9 children, all on a steel workers salary. They were all heros without trying it seems. Unfortunately most never got the recognition they deserved.

I am sorry for your loss .

I am going to take a stab at the revolver as it looks somewhat like a Colt Police Positive model . It is indeed hard to say that with 100% certainty based on the photo .

Did your grampa have any records of his firearms possibly? Maybe for insurance purposes or some such? Just a thought.

I am not sure how to put my finger on it, but something in that photo tells me your grandpa remembered that day as well. You can just see the love and pride.

I would suggest, as others look for records but you could also ask other family members or friends of your grandfather. He may have had friends whom he talked about guns with.

If all else fails, get another .38 that is of similar look and vintage and I am sure you will enjoy it with the same passion.

Sorry for your loss, and good luck in your search.

condolences
yet so long as someone remembers him--he remains alive

as to the handgun I'm going with NEF [or its fraternal twin, H&R]
i took your pic up 600% and your grip is low on the handle--like a NEF
other indications also; shape of the hammer, trigger guard, bbl, apparent lack of
front sight and the ejector.

good luck to ua

Well thank you all for your help. When my wife gets back I will see if she can scan again and focus in on the revolver.Like I said, money wise it probly aint worth $25,but its priceless to me,and to know that another family member probly got their hands on it and pawned it makes me sad.

Looks to me like an H&R 949 Sportsman .22....I'd have this picture blown up and framed...a perfect family memory and inspiration to you when you're someone's Grandpa...great memories...sorry for your loss...glad he put the love of shooting into you....

Looks quite a bit like this doesn't it:

DSC04156.jpg

Identified as a H&R Mod 922 Double Action 22 on http://www.stouffersauctionco.com/Sportsman 10-07/Featuretemplate.html

I'm not sure that the auction description accurately identifies it though.
