Hey guys, just wanted to give a report on my hipoint .45,Ive heard so much crap about this weapon i had to give my 2 cents, bought it,inspected it,took it out n shot it 600 rds,not one problem, kinda like the weight because it calms recoil, but it it every bit if not more accurate than my colt nmgc,i love it,im a stonemason i got bid hands and thats why i like the weight ,i like to feel what im holing, lifetime warranty, made in america, there may be some lemons like everything else but this one is just fine, plan on getting a hipoint carbine next.I guess my point is if you dont have 1000.00 to plunk down the hipoint is a decent choice based on my experence, and if gya run out of ammo its so heavy ya could smack em up side the head, they aint goin to et up,also makes a good hammer,ha ha,decent gun for those on a budget i can buy 5 or 6 of them for what ya pzy for some overpriced pretty .45s,reminds me of russian weapons, simple effective, indestructable, mike

You know you have a heavy pistol when your 1911 is the lightweight alternative.

Oh, and where's the popcorn? This'll get fun.

...every bit if not more accurate than my colt nmgc...
You're gonna have to quantify that statement. Did you actually test them from the bench with a variety of ammo or is this just a seat of the pants impression from shooting offhand?

...i can buy 5 or 6 of them for what ya pzy for some overpriced pretty .45s...
So anybody who spends more on another gun is just paying for pretty? You speak condescendingly of those who spend more on better guns and yet you're comparing the HiPoint to your Colt???

Look, I got no problem with anybody being happy with anything. Not everybody needs, wants or desires a nice 1911. If a cheap alternative does it for you, I won't begrudge you your choice. However, when you start with the "just as good as _____", that's when folks start getting defensive. And rightfully so, because some things cost more than others because they ARE better. Because they ARE made from better materials. Because they ARE better machined. Because they ARE better finished. Because they ARE more accurate. No amount of wishful thinking will change that.

Truth be told, I could have bought sixteen for what I paid for my last 1911. That just means there are more for you!

I shoot my Hi-point 45 about 4 times a year and at 25 yards it shoots out the X on standard combat targets. I have shot others HP and got similar results. I would love to see one of the experts get a HP 45 and some others and 8 differant brands of 45 ammo a Ranson Rest and do a real test. I am afraid no one will because when the Hi point wins or finishes in the top 3 folks will have a fit.

i agree, people seem to think the more i paid for it the better it is.and that i have found to be a load of BS.i sold a beautiful 1911 para ord 45 for a thousand bucks.i bought a cheap Arc 98 9mm for 300. better group, more rounds for 1/3 the money.dont let the price fool ya. i cant imagine a 500 dollar hooker would work any better than a 50 dollar one, just might be more purtty.just like the gun

And every HiPoint owner will cry foul when it doesn't.

It still baffles me the way proponents of cheap guns think.

I've had a HP 4595 for about a year an a half. It has 2000 rounds through it, a mix of factory and reloads. One failure to feed in all that time with any bullet type except for LSWC. I've shot it off hand and from the bench. I've shot it with three different scopes, two red dots and the irons it came with.

For what it costs (mine cost $250) it's a good shooter. If someone wanted an inexpensive HD weapon and was uncomfortable with a handgun, this would fill the bill well. For fun at he range...a good choice.

But my example of this breed is not what I would call accurate.
I've tried various factory loads and experimented with perhaps 5-6 different powders. And while I've solved the problem of the rifle not loading LSWC by switching to Laser-Cast 200gr LSWC. I've not found a combination that could give me a descent target consistently, at 50 yards. Descent as in ~1 1/2 in. or even 2 inches.

The company has a very good rep for fixing what's broke and I've toyed with contacting them about better accuracy, I should.
But my experience wouldn't stop me from recommending it. It's inexpensive and fun to shoot, as a range toy it fills the bill. And besides, I'm probably too dang fussy anyway.:D

I also own a Hi Point 45 pistol, it is ugly, bulky, heavy . I never had it jam, seems to shoot good and it is very inexpensive. It is what it is.

If you consider a gun a tool, and one that must work as designed, the Hi-Point is just fine.

If you consider a gun a work of art, to look at and admire, nice if it works, but that not being part of its charm, then the Hi-Point is not for you.

Jim

P.S. Two inches at 50 yards is darned good accuracy; if the Hi-Point comes anywhere near that, it is doing well.

I'd say 1.5-2" is a little better than decent. That's what one should expect from a $2000-$3000 accurized 1911. Most service pistols won't do that at 25yds. Let alone an el cheapo HiPoint.

If someone has a Ransom rest, and is willing to loan it out, I would gladly do a head to head comparison with a NIB Hi-Point .45 and a sub-$1,000 1911.

Will it shoot out the Xring on a B6 target at 50 yards?
Will it do that year after year? My own NMGC has more than 60k rounds through it and it will still deliver Xring groups of ten shots (I have to bench it to do that; the big guys like Zins, Zurek, Hemphill and Henderson don't.) Interestingly enough, though they could shoot a High Point during the Centerfire and .45 stages of a match, they don't. In fact, I have yet to see anyone shooting a High Point at any Bullseye match. (of course, I haven't been to every Bullseye match. Maybe somewhere...)

Have a HiPoint 995, 40, and C9.

The 995 and 40jhp are fine. The C9 will not shoot a complete mag without a misfeed. (I know... I could send it back to the factory. But my plan is just to sell it with full disclosure and let someone else send it back).

Sticking to the handguns, the 40 and the C9 have wicked trigger slap. So much so that it hurts my finger after a few magazines!

The guns are heavy and ugly. They are "gateway" pistols. The minute someone tries something better... and can afford it... they are going to upgrade.

They have a place. My first pistol was the HP 40. I bought a Lee reloading setup and have shot the bejeezus out of this gun. But it is NOT the equal of a whole host of guns in the $300-$500 range.

The High Point 4595 is the carbine and will shoot 1.5-2 inches easily at 50yds with open sights, even with my old eyes.

This.

I have a C9; I like it and I shoot it often. I traded a Savage 64 (.22 semi-auto rifle) that I just couldn't like for it and I'm happy. But I realize its limitations and yes, as soon as I have some pistol money I will upgrade to something else. But I need a .30-06 first. And a .223. And a semi-auto shotgun. And a big-bore revolver. And...

But I like the Hi-Point enough that it isn't a priority just now.

BTW Hi-Point triggers are easy enough to fix. Lighter springs and some polish to the internals will do wonders.

The OP has a total of 3 posts, two of them being nearly identical, didn't bother reading the 3rd, but I know a troll when I see one. Don't feed the trolls.

As a former Hi Point owner, I appreciated the guns, too. Then I got a better gun and have not regretted selling them.
