My Home Was Burglarized

What are the odds, really? Both in timing, location, and just pure luck! Congrats.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions on whether the dealer is legit or a thief. I think most people here would buy a handgun FTF and there is always a chance the gun was stolen at one point in time.

Odd that the grips were different. Someone may have parted out your grips for additional $.

But again, what are the odds and congrats!

Wow...I don't really believe in coincidences...someone was looking down on you for that one. Really blows my mind. Congrats on getting your gun back!

I'd prolly give him half his money back.

We did some swapping and he came out okay.

I just couldn't believe it. I looked it over real good and it's still in the same condition. Only thing I could tell was that it had been shot since it was stolen.

Well,well!!
Happy for you Olympus.
Many times I have hoped that some of the firearms that were stolen from me in times past would just turn up in some pawn shop or gun show that I was cruising around in.
This story made my Monday!!

I learned a valuable lesson to take good care of guns that have sentimental attachment to you. Even if you can replace them, it's still not the same. At least it wasn't for me.

Contact the organizer of the gun show and let him know about that shady dealer. If anything, contact all local gun show organizers.

Next, get a home security camera system and an alarm system (no need to have it monitored, just on). I am in the midst of installing one myself. The thought came to me that break-ins often happen during the holiday seasons. The thief could have hours to break into a safe. The loud alarm system should force them to keep the break in short and the camera system should help with identifying the thieves. They make wireless cameras that upload data to a cloud server (so you can access it anywhere and won't lose the video if they take the computer) and will even call you/email you when a trigger goes off. If you have a smart phone, you can monitor your house 24/7.

I always have in regards to my nightstand gun. I'm of the opinion that when I'm woken up from a dead sleep with someone breaking into my house, I want my gun within quick reach. I don't want to fumble in the dark with finding draw handles to open or rummaging around in a drawer in the dark to find the gun, or even to use one of those fingerprint scanner single gun lockboxes. I want my gun right out on the nightstand within quick grasp. We have no children and no children are even in our home. That's why the gun was out where it could be seen. And as someone said, most burglars go straight to the master bedroom.

My kids are grown and gone but I still keep my HD gun in one of my safes mounted to my bed frame. You could do something similar and have your gun ready at a moments notice. Some people choose to leave the door open at night and the gun is quickly accessible and holstered with the trigger covered like in your shoulder holster. Your gun is always in the exact same place and orientation. Then in the morning just close the door and your gun is secured while you are away. You can draw your gun easily with one hand since the box is mounted solidly to something. Can you draw 1 handed from your shoulder holster? While I do sell these, I started making them when I couldn't find what I was looking for in the market. There are several choices out there and I'm sure one of them will fit your needs.

ps - Glad you got your gun back.

I'm thinking the insurance will be more effective at recouping cost, as they have a bit of a vested interest in it.

They took the original magna grips off and put on Hogue grips that covered the bottom of the butt.
