My oldest son who is seven killed his first deer this evening. We were set up in a pop-up blind and the deer came in and gave him about a 20 yard shot. I had told him several times to be sure to shoot deer in the shoulder and watched hunting videos with him that showed deer being hit in the shoulder. This deer was on top of us and would not turn so I told HP to shoot him in the neck, after he got his Aimpoint where he wanted it he dropped the hammer and the deer dropped like a rock! He was so excited, he jumped up and said "I knocked him down!". I am so proud of him, only his second hunt and he sealed the deal!

My wife just gave the go ahead for my 7 yeard old to start going out rabbit and grouse hunting! I can't wait to be sitting in a blind with him. Congrats to you both on the 1st of many deer.

That is very cool.
I am wondering how soon to introduce my son to shooting and hunting?
He isn't one year yet so I have time, but when did you start?
I understand that each child is different I just want some ideas.

cottonmouth - congrats to you both. nothing better than that experience and that is the perfect first deer! Many more happy hunts for you both...

That's how you do it! Way to go- both of you. He'll treasure those pictures in years to come. I still have the photo of me, at age six, standing with my grandfather and the results from my first squirell hunt.

Congrats, I can't wait for that experience. My oldest boy is only 4, we just started target shooting with the red rider.
