Here is my 870 super mag with the 23 inch super slug barrel. I used to use the basic stock but wanted to do something different this year. After visiting the gunshop and looking at all the thumbhole and pistol grip full length stocks on the turkey guns, i decided i wanted a pistol grip stock.

So i picked up a Knoxx SpecOps NRS stock and the power pak for shell holder and cheek piece.

Here is what it looks like so far and it feels pretty good. i didnt slide the cheek piece all the way onto the stock because then i couldnt align my eyes with the scope.
I took off my stock recoil pad and put it on the knoxx stock to get an extra half inch or so of stock length. It feels good but i plan on replacing it with a better pad that fits the butt end better.

I plan to fill the battery holder on the power pak with a tube full of melted lead shot just to weigh the gun down abit to balance it out and reduce the recoil :) i may fill the handle with something too just to keep some weight on the gun.

I may get a magazine extension too and put a weight in there, i'm not sure yet.

But so far i like the way it feels. i may swap out scopes for one with abit longer eye relief to keep my face back farther on the stock. I'll shoot it as is first and see how i like the kick :)

And you seem to want to put a lot of lead in the thing. With a magazine extension, lead weights, that scope, shells on the buttstock in the magazine and one in the tube its going to weight a hell of a lot. Well, this is assuming your using it for hunting.

But like Dave said, let us know how it shoots.

believe me the gun is light as it is with the current setup. it could use the weight. I dont mind carrying a heavy gun thru the woods, i can handle that just fine. This will be my hunting gun

I might be using partition golds this year which kick pretty good. I use platinum tips and the gun shoots those very well.... but they kick pretty good. Any weight i can add is a bonus. I'll see if i can get a chance to shoot it soon. my public range is closed down for awhile now, not sure when it will reopen. I'll have to try and go out to a friends farm property to shoot it.

Why the Knoxx NRS?????

For a SuperMag, shooting 3-1/2" shells, the original Knoxx will be easier on the shoulder!

Also, you can get the Limbsaver pad that fits on the Knoxx SpecOps.
The shotgun that I set up for my daughter came with the Limbsaver already on it.

With the shotgun set up as shown above, 00B, 1 oz slugs and some old 3" #2 copperplate loads were easy on the shoulder.

well for one the NRS was MUCH cheaper...and i didnt really want to spend that kind of money on a stock for a gun i dont use all that much. And i wasnt sure if i'd like the feel of it so i went with the cheaper NRS version

and two, the recoil system looked like a great idea, but i was concerned that the gun would shift back too far and the scope would hit me in the face. I dont have a real long eye relief on this scope, its only 3.3 inches. I may go to a 4 inch which would allow me to align my cheek better on the power pak kit. But from the vids on the knoxx site, it looked like the gun compressed a few inches and i didnt want to take the chance.

I would like to try it tho just cuz the recoil of these slugs is stout. manageable but definately stout.

And i dont shoot 3 1/2 inch shells... if i cant do it with a 3 inch shell, i shouldnt be taking the shot. I bought the supermag just in case i ever do need to shoot a big shell and i got a nice deal on it lol

I put in a lead filled copper pipe into the battery holder in the stock and weighed the gun empty...its around 9-9.5 lbs. not heavy enough for me cuz i shot it once today using my old Platinum Tip 400 grain sabots.

the gun feels good but does kick hard still. not sure i like my scope on this gun, i feel i need longer eye relief :)

Just wanted to update this thread since i shot the gun recently and added more stuff

i didnt like the scope i had on the gun anymore, it had only 3-3.2 inches of eye relief so over the weekend i bought a Cabelas Pine Ridge Lever Evolution scope. 3-9x40mm scope designed for use on lever action rifles with Hornady ammunition. they have a reticle with 2 mildot like marks that are compensated for bullet drop at 200 and 300 yards for either 30-30, 444marlin or 45/70 gov. Depends on which scope you got but i got the 30-30. I dont care about the bullet drop stuff, i just bought the thing for its 4.5-5.3 inch of eye relief. much safer now :)

Also picked up a Tacstar 8 shot magazine extension and filled that with a steel pipe full of melted lead shot to add more weight to the front end to keep the muzzle down. Barrel clamp with swivel stud mount is on its way. Gun has good balance now

Gun now weighs alittle over 11lbs empty.
Shot a few rounds out of it to get sighted in somewhat. i just added the scope and the gun shot like 9 inches high and 4 left. not bad for first shot. 2 more and its shooting dead center 1.5-2 inches high at 100yards. shooting Winchester Supreme Platinum Tips 400 grains at 1700fps

I hope to take it out to shoot it for groups but the gun still kicks very hard. 11lbs and inserted into a gun rest that had sand bags on it. Still kicks. gun jumps pretty good, i get alot of cheek slap with the Knoxx powerpack cheek rest.
I've shot a factory remington 700 in 300 Ultra Mag that weighed about 9 lbs i'd say and it was a kitty cat compared to this gun. much more mild than i expected that gun to be. oh well

I hate to say it, but....

...suck it up and buy yourself a real-deal SpecOps for Xmas.

I'm a little guy, and it totally eats the kick. The 1st time I took it to the range I shot exactly 100 Brenneke KO's. I know this because that was all I had with me, and I totally could/would have kept going if I had more!

And, it actually has more weight to it than the NRS because of the recoil mechanisms, and it really did wonders for the balance of my Mossy 500.

Trust me you will LOVE it!

i will be hunting withthis gun this year. 11lbs is kinda light to me i have no problems carrying heavy rifles. light is nice but its not a necessity for me. I have plenty of other rifles tho to play with if i decide not to use this gun

The only reason i didnt get that recoil systems stock was i was scared it would come back too far and the scope would hit me in the face/eye. it looks like it really moves rearward, and to me i didnt feel safe. with this new scope, maybe that will be an option.

the big problem i have now is that this gun tends to jump abit at muzzle and the cheek piece gets driven into my face :) 3 shots and it was hurting my face abit. i tried to align it differently but to no avail. i didnt have this problem before with the stock remington stock. its just the design of the powerpak cheek piece. blunt recoil off the bench isnt tooo bad its just the cheek slapping that gets to me now.

I wonder if barrel porting will help this gun??

Oh and by the way i used to shoot rifled slugs in a very lightweight winchester 1300. probly 7.5lbs with small scope. i was shooting base winchester loads which are mild and i had no problem with those. i couldnt see shooting 100 tho in a day! thats crazy!
shooting the big federal 546 grains at 1520 fps tho really rocked that gun. that speed pump action was fully thrown back and the shell ejected like a semi auto gun. i think recoil was about the same if not a tad worse than the gun i have now with the loads i use now. its been awhile so its hard to tell, and i was alot smaller then too :) Remington copper solids and base lead sabot loads are mild in the 870 when it was stock. these 400 grain platinum tips at 1700fps just are a hot load adn the partition gold is even hotter, especially that 3inch version. i dont want to know how that kicks, nor the Commander IDS 600 grains at 1700fps!!! jeeeeez:eek:
