My letter to the NRA:
Dear Mr. LaPierre,
I am writing this letter to express my feelings towards new legislation on “Assault Weapons†and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. As a 2nd Generation Life Member, I am holding the NRA accountable for defending my right to keep and bear arms. Not arms for “Hunting†or “Sporting Purposes†but arms as the founding fathers defined arms. Firearms used for defense of ones self and the defense of the State. The NRA has left the owners of military type firearms to fend for themselves too many times already. In 1986 with the ban on new manufacture of machineguns, In 1989 with the banning of imported military looking semi-automatic firearms, In 1994 with the ban of “Assault Weapons†and high capacity magazines. Our rights are being eroded through compromise.
We cannot just sit back and wait for the next attack on our rights. We don’t need 3 magazines, each getting thinner and thinner every month. We don’t need coins with rifles on them. We don’t need 15 different cards for ILA, NRA, or any other gimmick. We need results. We need to draw a line in the sand and stand our ground. If anything we need to take back lost ground. We need to make ATF accountable for their willful destruction of NFA registrations, We need an amnesty to correct the NFA registry. We need the sunset of the 1994 ban on “Assault Weapons†and high capacity magazines.
If this ban does not sunset, if NRA cannot stop this from being renewed or a new ban from passing, then the NRA is not worth supporting. If the NRA will not or cannot fight for my rights, then I will resign my membership and find an organization that will.
I know of many people that are the core of the gun culture that have already given up on the NRA. Help me to prove to them that the NRA can make a difference. Help me to get them to join the NRA. If you can get the ball rolling in the other direction, get our rights restored, get the Assault Weapons Ban to die, I can guarantee that your ranks will swell. I will personally pay for some people to join. To help with this fight, I am signing up my 4 year old son, Remington (Yes that is his first name) as a life member. I will be contributing some extra money to help fight those that wish to take my rights away.
Show the gun owners that have defected from our ranks, those that don’t think the NRA makes a difference, those that have not joined because they haven’t seen any victories won by the NRA, that the NRA is the defender of rights. I get letters from you all the time asking for support, well now I am asking you to help support us gun owners. As a lifetime member that will become a benefactor if the NRA does not compromise, I ask you for help.
