I just wanted to brag about my 4 year old little girl. I took her Dove hunting last year when she was 3. She asked every day and every day until the season began, and it was amazing just having her next to me for a day out in the field. Of course she's not shooting them yet, but she picked them up for me barehanded and as soon as I hit them she wants to find it.

This year, I got to take her in the morning when it's not so hot. I know she won't last more than a few hours out there, so I don't expect to limit out every time with her. I really could care less if I get less than my limit, as it's about taking her and teaching her how hunting works. She actually said that she didn't care how many we got, she just wanted to spend time with me. She also loves fishing, and caught her own first fish a few months ago.

Well, I just wanted to brag how proud I am of my little girl. My other little girl is a few years away from joining us, but I can't wait. While other kids my children's ages are crying when they find out where meat comes from, mine respect what it takes to put together a good meal for our family.

Care to share a kid hunting story?

that is just simply amazing! i dont have kids yet(only 14) but on day when i do i will teach them how to hunt, fish and to enjoy the outdoors and to make sure we dont get the things like you mentioned above. but overall, that is a great thing.

My three daughters

I'm "their dad" rather; they are all grown and on their own now but I can't help but to correlate between their personalities and how they aimed firearms at targets when we used to shoot.

Lightheartedly as follows..........

The eldest always aimed for the head; she is a counselor
The middle always aimed for the heart; she broke the most hearts
The youngest, she always aimed for the groin; she is currently kicking me the hardest.

:D

Michael, glad you're here. At 14 I had never gone hunting, shooting, or fishing, so you're a leg up on most of your peers. Keep it up.

Oathkeeper1775 (love the name!), that's great! I love it.

The last time I went antelope hunting, I decided to take the wife and both kids. My boy was just shy of three, and he had been anticipating that weekend coming up for several days straight. I woke up at 3am to start the final packing and etc. I slip out of bed and walk into the restroom to pee first thing, and I'm being super quiet so that everyone could keep sleeping. Well that little two year old boy opens the bathroom door and says "Daddy can I go huntin' wiff you?". I grinned about as big as Texas right there!! He must have been so excited that he could barely sleep and when he heard the slightest little thing he got up because he wanted to make SURE he was still going with his Daddy.

My daughter 9 has slayed the fish this summer out fishing her little brother 5 and 6 to one...her largest was a couple of 22" channel cats. She loves to fish and I take her (them) every chance I get. On the other hand she flat out refuses to hunt, but she loves to shoot the 22. I just can't get her to agree to even go hunting.

My son 7 on the other hand loves archery, fishing, hunting and shooting. He took his first deer last September at 6 years of age. This evening we were shooting his BB gun and 22 in the back yard, he knew exactly where to aim to score hits on his army men at 20 yards with both. He turns 7 this weekend and wants to go squirrel hunting for his birthday...LOL I bought him a youth H&R 7mm-08 back in the summer but even with managed recoil loads it's a beast for him. Two weeks from now our youth deer hunt will take place and he can't wait, even if he has to use the mule.
