My local gun store closed by ATF

It is very different from what Bush did, which allegedly is where he selected prosecutors in midterm who refused to listen to Republicans pressuring them to investigate democrate corruption and stop investigating republican corruption.

As apposed to Bill Clinton who replaced the prosecutor who was investigating him in Arkansas (Whitewater), and replaced him with an intern that had worked for him?

Say what???

If Bush was so hot to fire 93 US attorney's I'd like to see him get fired up about replacing EVERY HIGH RANKING POSITION at the ATF. That would send a message.

Try Clinton. Yes, it was William "joke of a Presdent" Clinton that did the firing of ALL 93 US Attorneys, NOT President Bush. That's a fact.

Unfortunately I haven't heard about this. I'm surprised the Republican congress didn't nail him for this. Could you bring up a news article that mentions this, kind of suspicious since I don't see it mentioned by any news source recently, while the "Clinton fired all the prosecutors" gets brought up.

Anyway, if Clinton did do that, for that reason, which I believe is wrong, does that excuse Bush for doing the same? Doesn't it just make Bush as bad as Clinton?

Different folks speculating on the nature of the violations..."complacent, willful, lazy", etc.

Here's the post from the owner of Red's Sporting Goods:

Ryan Horsley (id:rhorsley) wrote on March 14, 2007 7:44 AM:

"When we were audited the last time by the ATF, the agent had told us that we were “one of the best small gun shops he had audited”. It came as a shock to me that they would revoke our license, when we were audited they went through the last 5 years which we average 2,000 firearms per year. The error rate that they found was not even a full percentage point. This is not just happening to us though this is a common trend throughout the United States; the problem is with the ATF’s liberal interpretation of the word “willful”. The word “willful” was added by Ronald Reagan and Congress to protect FFL (Federal Firearms License) dealers against the ATF. Why would we honestly put our license, reputation and over 70 years in business in Jeopardy? We would never condone of illegal activity, we have always gone above and beyond what is asked of us and will continue to do so. Our family takes pride in our business and community. We will continue to fight this and received a lot of phone calls and e-mails from other dealers that are battling the same situation. The number of FFL’s in this country are on a sharp decline. I thank our friends, supporters and customers for their continued support and assure everyone that we will continue to fight this. "

He did fire all of them. That is his right. The federal prospectors serve at the pleasure of the President. Clinton did nothing illegal, neither did the Bush Whitehouse, the difference is in the reporting (and perhaps Bush did not cover his motives as well). This is always done by Presidents.

Does that make it right? Probably not, but the only reason it is a big deal, is because it is Bush.

Yeah in Ryan's and his mom Terry's defence, every gun I have purchased from them, they appeared to be thorough on the paper work.

Making sure N/A was present on lines not applicable and state IDAHO was printed not just Id.

Gotta' make it in there this weekend to see what's going.

Wow.
Not the first time I have heard of this happening.
If the owner chooses to fight this in court he will, in all likelihood, receive his license back with restrictions.
When it comes high time to reapply the BATFE will probably place him on a probationary status or just keep issuing extensions without actually sending his license. This tactic can go on for years and cost the owners mucho money in legal meandering just so he may remain 'in the business'.
I wish him well.

Same thing happened to a store in my area (Yeagers Sporting Goods, Bellingham, WA).
Really sucks, but guns were definitely not their core business. They're still around.

"omitted a background check on a special order, failed to log multiple handgun sales to the same customer in five working days, threw away denied applications dealers are required to keep for 20 years"

Uhhh... some of these are pretty serious offenses. A lot of it's petty stuff, but these three aren't really excusable. Not that the regulations are lawful, but we obliged to follow them regardless, particularly as a licensed entity.
