I went to Walmart a few days ago to get some ammo and was told by the clerk that until further notice they couldn't sell any ammo. At first I thought it was just me until he showed me a sign on the counter to that effect. He said it came down from the "loss prevention" folks. Don't know exactly what that means other than they probably have an inventory control issue. I went back yesterday and the same thing, still unable to sell ammo. Oh well, guess I'll just have to shoot the more expensive stuff until they get things worked out.

Don't feel too bad.....the WalMarts in NJ don't sell guns OR ammo......PERIOD. :cuss: :barf:

I love buying my ammo at the local Wally World. I wish Sam Club solds cases of ammo. That would sweet. I sure love my WWB.

Walmart can't sell ammo

I shoot a lot of 9MM and even if it is a low cost centerfire round I can reload for at least half price than is sold at Walmart, and what can be ordered on line. Don't forget the shipping cost!

At our Walmart, all the ammo, except shotgun shells, is in a locked display behind the counter. How was it where you're at?

hahaha you wouldnt believe the one by me. they have counters set up in a big square with vertical cases at the corner of the square holding rifles. just about all of the counters are used to hold ammo. they are wood on top and in front (so you cant see inside) and the back is completely open. the only time i bought ammo from there, two people were working the section and were no where to be found. i stood around the counter for about 10 minutes and even went behind it to see what they carried. finally someone showed up two isles over at another counter that had paintball guns behind it. i could have grabbed as much ammo as i wanted and walked off .

Same here at the local Wally World. You have to buy rifle and pistol ammo at the Sporting Goods counter (where they can read you the question about what it wil be used in and your age) but you can take all the shotgun ammo you want to the regular tellers. And they don't have any screen prompt to ask you any questions. Of course, you probably don't have a 12 gauge pistol to declare for the ammo use :D

Lately, I have noticed that the prices for certain ammo calibers have gone up some. The 9mm value packs are now $11.99 here and the .45ACP value packs are $20.95.

You could mess them up by saying the rifle ammo will be used for a handgun and vice vesa.

The ammo at our local Wally World is locked up, all of it. Even the air guns and BB's are locked up.

Not all Wally Worlds around here sell ammo; some do and some don't. I guess it depends on the regulations from their villages?

lots of sadass large municipalities restrict ammo sales before 4th of July and New Year's. Could this be the case for your WlaMart?

Here, all "Handgun" ammo is kept behind the counter (but not locked up), along with several other rifle calibers and shotgun slugs. Out on the shelves, though, the regular shotgun Valu-Paks take up a good amount of space; below this, calibers like 7mm Rem. Mag., .30-06, and a few others are below that (don't recognize the pattern as to why).

Sounds like my typical Walmart experience here, except there's usually somebody close by the counter to flag down if there's nobody behind it. Usually I don't have to wait.

Last Value Pk ammo be it WWB or Fed Shotgun shells was less expensive at Academy Sports or Sports Unlimted than a buddy that buys at WM.

Sports Academy even lugged all the ammo to my truck after buying cases of 45ACP and 9mm WWB and The Federal shotgun shells...even gave me a discount for quanity , accepted cash, no idiot questions, no ID.

Before one fella died that had the Mom&Pop gunstore - same deal, better price than WM, ( just add my order to his) and coutesy extended to cases of wads, primers and such for reloading. Heck he even delivered it to me once, being out my way.

I "believe" I paid $3.96 for CCI Blazer 9mm at Academy not long ago.

I do know for a fact I paid $1.10 LESS for Simple Green at NAPA than what my neighbor paid for it at WM. My deordorant is .20 less everyday at the Harvest Food grocery store than at Walmart...same neighbor , we compared reciepts...

I don't do WM.

I always tell 'em it's for a submachine gun. That either scares or confuses 'em, and they just hit "rifle" and give me my ammo. ;-)

Oh, man. (drooling) Maybe they'd have WWB in a big, giant 1000 round box to go along with the 8 qt jar of pickles and gallon jar of mustard.

Not true, at least not here. I regularly stick a couple of boxes of WWB in with the groceries and check out at the regular cashier. Always get the "handgun y/n" question on the register. Most times they just look at me and decide I'm so far over 21 it doesn't matter.
or support your local gun shop
Not my local gunshop. They're the reason people started reloading ammo.

But not in half the time it takes me to buy it at Wallyworld. Time is a precious commodity, too. And no shipping at Wallyworld, and here, no sales tax. $109.60 a case out the door.

Man, Academy Sports prices have had me drooling for years. I always hear about their Blazer prices. Damn, I wish they were up here in the NE.

So, until Academy Sports opens in New England...

"Leland (my favorite old guy behind the counter, hat and vest festooned with various buttons and badges, slight shuffle when he walks), 3 boxed of WWB 9mm and 2 of .45, please."
"Wanna pay for 'em here, or up front?"
"I'll just throw them in the cart. Thanks, and see you next time."

Scott

I like to confuse them about whether for a rifle or pistol, because I usually buy 9mm, but it is for a rifle: My Kel-Tec!:D But, like Scott S said, I am plenty enough over 21, so it wouldn't matter. I'll have to try Treylis' idea!:D
The liqidation center at Sportsman's Guide has never carded me, but then again, I must look my 40 years!:( The prices are good, but usually not better than WWB. I buy my 7.62x54R there because I like Czech silvertip, and it's 2.47 a box there.:)

Re:

Due to my close proximity to Chicago and I live in the wonderful county of Cook, some of those mail order places like Sportsmans Guide, Cheaper than Dirt won't sell me ammo as they have a policy on not shipping or selling ammo or other sundry items to residents of Cook County IL. Sucks too since I buy alot of stuff from both...But it doesn't stop my buddies in the next county from buying it......mack

possible reason ....

our local Wally World stopped selling it for a month or so. Seems they got a new manager and the gov't (or store?) requires the FFL to be issued in the managers name so there was a 'dry' period while the FFL was issued to the new manager.
