My LR-308 is bummin me out

I reported last weak that my new DPMS LR-308 was having failure ejecting rounds, and it's still not even broken in completely. Basically the rounds were getting ejected, but not exiting the chamber before the round below it was entering the chamber. Is this called a 'stovepipe' or something? Any ways, the round was log jamming with the next in line.

I talked to DPMS and they said that the Rem Oil I was lubing with was too light for a gun that runs this hot, and the bolt was probably hanging up and not getting the round out fast enough. So I loaded it today with Tetra Gun Grease and had the same malfunction. A buddy suggested using Break-Free CLP. What do you all use? Has this happened to anyone else? :banghead:

Was the neck of the empty case still part-way in the chamber, or was it sticking out the ejection port?

If the former, you're having a failure to extract, rather than a failure to eject. Check the gas block to make sure it is properly aligned with the gas port. Also check the bolt carrier gas key, make sure the screws are tight and properly staked.

.308 ARs can require some fiddling to get them to run reliably. Don't let it bum you out.

Thanks for the report on your DPMS. I too am looking at purchasing a .308 battle rifle and I am leaning towards a DSA Arms FAL because I want something reliable both when it is new out of the box and down the road after it has been broken in.

I use CLP. No issues.

You are not describing a stovepipe so far as I can tell. It sounds like a Failure To Extract or a double feed. Among many other reasons a FTE can sometimes occur if the rounds are weak, out of head space tolerance or the bolt is not lubricated properly.

A stove pipe occurs when the casing is lodged in the ejection port holding the bolt (or slide on handgun) part way back.

Sell it and purchase an M1A. Nothing wrong with a FAL though. Never have I had a problem with an M1A.

RemOil is crap. Breakfree would be my first choice. I prefer the commercial stuff over the mil contract.

had the same problem with my new lr308b with winchester ammo but when i switched to federal ammo problem solved. i think winchester is loaded light possibly to nato specs.

Sounds to me like your extractor is letting go of the empty casing too soon. This will cause an empty and a live round to get jammed in the action. If this is what is happening you need to increase the strength of the extractor and/or replace the extractor. Try a Crane O-ring (or just for testing a #60 O-ring, from the hardware store) around the extractor spring and replace the extractor spring with a Wolff XP M4 extractor spring with a black insert.

ive had no problems with my lr308t, maybe 4 double feeds in the first 500-1000 rounds. i've heard of a few with this problem tho, most were using bad (read: african military surplus, etc) or light ammo. the few others had to send it in for a new ejector set for DPMS (which they were happy to do) and it worked perfect after that. (read ar-15.com for more on all that)
