Here is a link for a picture of what I did on my 18 inch target at 50 yards sitting no shooting rest. It has mojo peep sights and I was using like 150 grain military surplus ammo. 3 of the shots I did standing. The one that is almost a bulleye I did while I was standing. I was trying to set my sights to. That's as good as I can get them.

This other link is to a picture of another 18 inch target I shot at but at 100 yards and my rifle was on a shooting rest. I was setting my sights to on this target. This was 150 grain military surplus ammo as well and with mojo peep sights.

Looks like you need to slow down and make sure you have exactly the same sight picture every time. It's tough, but you are getting there :)

I did but the gun sight wasn't set on all shots. I was aimming for the orange every time. My shooting rest got out of adjustment and I couldn't get it set right again and I think my gun got hot at 100 yards. Just after like 3 shots at 100 yards my shooting rest goit out of adjustment. I thought may have gotten hot to. I think it takes way more then 3 rounds to get my gun hot. Right? Next time I am getting a caldwell shooting bag for the front of it. I have a caldwell shooting rest for it now. It's called a 7 rest. It doesn't even fit on any table there but 1 and that one is at the 100 yard range. I owned a caldwell shooting bag before for a mosin nagant 91/30 I used to own. It was better than this other one I used to own. I can't remember the name of it. I gotta try cleaning this gun out tomorrow. I put over 40 rounds through it today. One of the rounds wouldn't load right and it even got stuck in the barrel. Atleast it made paper at 100 yards a few times or so. Way better than what I did last time. Last time it only made the paper once after like 10 rounds and the target was way bigger but it had the factory sights on it and no shooting rest. Thanks for replying BrucLuno.

15guns I've only fired a Mauser once so I can't give any advice, not to hijack your thread but here's what I did at 50yds with my 1942 M1 garand(left)and my 1954 M1 garand(right)no bench rest ect. 8" target.
I know there's guys that can do this at 200yds but I know my limitations. ;)

Then my 1903 springfield at 50yds.

Yeah but that's a 30-06. Less recoil and muzzle flip than mine. I seen a m1 garand with a aftermarket stock factory sights on a shooting rest do real good at 100 yards to. My gun only costed me just over 220 dollars but I put different sights on it and I bought the shooting rest for it so I got maybe 360 in it now so far. I decided I will keep my shooting rest but I'm thinking about getting my rifle ported. We shall see what the gun smith has to say. If I got a good trigger for it it won't matter because the gun is on a shooting rest. I think if it's ported it should stay planted on the shooting rest better so then it should have much more accuracy. What do you people think?

I was looking at a different website about porting. They said it decreases accuracy. I won't be going that direction with my gun.

It is a Czech VZ-24 8x57mm Instructie Model. I was just using 150 grain military surplus ammo.

I'm definatley going to have to get a shooting bag for 50 and 25 yards because my shooting rest is to big for the those tables. I just took the shoulder sling off my rifle and cleaned it earlier. I guess the shooting bag will be the last thing for it.

There is surplus 8mm from many different countries and configurations. Get a few others and try them until you find one your rifle likes.

"...was trying to set my sights..." 50 is too close and you must use a solid rest. Forget the bull and shoot for group only in strings of 5. Slowly and deliberately, allowing time for the barrel to cool between strings.
Milsurp ammo is not made for great accuracy either. However, a great deal depends on what you plan on doing with your rifle.
If you're not reloading, you need to try a box of as many brands and bullet weights as you can to find the ammo your rifle shoots best.
"...my shooting rest is too big..." Sand bag under the balance point of your rifle. Usually just forward of the mag well. Cheap and you can fill it at the range if there's sand. Otherwise, a bag of sand at a Home Depot, etc. is cheap. $6Cdn last time I bought one.

Yeah thanks for the info about cooling. Maybe I should do just 1 shot then let it cool for a few minutes. I'm going to start using ppc 196 grain soft points once my military surplus ammo is out. I need a shooting bag for the front of my rifle.
