Quotes used heavily in the title for good reason... :)

My dad's been wanting a 1903A3 for the longest time... IIRC, about 40 years. He's never been much of a shooter, but ever since his ROTC days back in the early 1960s, he's loved the design.

Anyhoo, I recently started working part-time at a milsurp store here in the city, and I found what looked to be like a sporterized Mauser. Of course, after five seconds of actually looking at it, I was delighted to find that it was a 1903A3. As soon as I could, I told Dad about it, and he decided to go ahead and jump on it. I pitched in a few bucks too, since I wanna shoot it some myself. :D

Today, I picked it up, and brought it home for him to see. Needless to say, he couldn't stop grinning for a good ten minutes (during which he remimbursed me). I told him we'd find a good USGI stock for it, and "get it back to looking normal."

So, I jumped online and decided to see what I could find out. (Nomex suit on) It's a National Ordnance, in near-new condition. From what I found out, I (we/he) got a decent deal on it. $240 out the door, to be exact.

I don't expect this to be a tack driver, collectible, or shot a lot, so I'm fine with all that, but I'm just glad that A) he finally has his dream rifle, and B) I have something I can try to use in DCM competition.

So, where do I find a true 1903 stock (with upper handguard)?

Just so you know the national ord. reciever is a aftermarket reciever that was made in the early to mid 70's, its is not an original 03a3 reciever. That being said they are not bad recievers at all. I have 2 of them that i shoot at cmp matches regularly. Best place to get a nice stock right now that i have found is dupagetrading.com. Go to the "whats new" catagory and click. about 2/3 down the page u will see 1903a3 stocks for 99.95. I bought one of these a couple weeks ago and it is a very nice, clean stock with all the cartouches intacked. These where taken off of deactivated drill rifles. Very nice company to deal with also.

_N4Z_, you have chosen...

Wisely. :D

Working there during the week.

No kidding. When I was working at Tinker me and a couple buds would frequently drop in there at lunch to have a look around. You know Del Taco is right around the corner!

I've dropped a little bit of coin at "Gah-doonz"! :D

Probobly be up there tomorrow to have a look at the ammo selection. Is there any x54r Hungarian stuff on the shelf?

Not that I know of... I think there's just Czech silvertip, Monarch, and this weird training-round stuff. Haven't seen any Hungarian in the city in a while...

Recently got in a TON of Taiwanese and Pakistani .30-06... let's just say that if you have (specifically) a Garand or 1919, we're the place to go. ;)
