One of my newest acquisitions is a 6.8 SPC AR. I had trouble finding ammo at first and now hear that Remington is going to drop their 700 bolts in 6.8 as well as the ammo line. The word is from a gun dealer and Remington rep.

There is still Hornady ammo, and Remington doesn't produce the AR version. Any other owners out there? I didn't plan on this one going in to the "collectable" portion of my collection.

It seems like Remington has done more to harm 6.8 SPC than to help it. I have no information about their plans, but 6.8 has picked up a considerable number of major AR-15 manufacturers in the last year, and there are at least 3 or 4 ammo sources besides Remington (SSA, Hornady, HSM, Load-X).

Do you reload? If not, now is the perfect time to start. Collect enough brass now and you will never have to worry about finding components even if it goes out of style. Bullets, primers, and powder will always be available.

I have enough $$$ to usually buy ammo even when expensive. Reloading takes time - which I don't always have. Convenience in getting ammo is more of a factor for me. I will probably just have to stock up on a couple thousand rounds.

Not gonna happen. Besides, I load my own and it will last me as long as I like :p

Not neccacarly Try handloading for a 30 Newton, Remember the parent case for 6.8SPC is 30 remington. Hardly common and brass will eventually wear out.

6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, .45 Bushmaster, .50 Beowulf, etc are all fads.

In my opinion, a round isnt going to last long if its not developed in conjuction with a new firearm platform. If a new round is a retrofit to an existing platform, its bad karma.

All 6.8SPC brass is new manufacture - mostly by Remington or Silver State. Nobody is making it out of 30 Remington.

YES! and my point is that when those MFG's get out of the 6.8 buisness what are you going to make 6.8 cases from? It won't be like turning plentifull 30-06 cases into 7.65 Mauser.

Back to the subject of the thread; do any of y'all doom-n-gloom prognosticators of 6.8SPC's demise have any solid word that confirms Remington's intention to get out of the 6.8SPC market?

By the time that 6.8SPC brass becomes hard to find, I guarantee you that my bolt and barrel are toast and are due for a replacement anyway. It's not like a huge deal, ya know? But until that time, a whole bunch of folk are going to happily shoot their 6.8SPC rifles in blissful ignorance of how miserable they should be.... :)

I'm unfamiliar with ballistics on the 6.8. Sounds like it wouldn't be much better ballistically than the 7mm TCU. Wonder why no one's chambered an AR for 7mm TCU, or maybe they have? No one sells ammo. You have to neck up .223 brass and fire form, but there's no lack of .223 brass. :D I have a contender barrel chambered for it. Would make a fine medium game caliber out of an AR, I'd think.

Mine is just rambling. Excuse me if it's a dumb idea for some reason, LOL. I do like the caliber, though, and I can handload it forever as long as the .223 is around. I don't think .223 is going out of production anytime soon.
