My new deer slayer is getting close

What? A Possum Gun?
Everyone knows .375 Taylor is the absolute minimum for deer.
Prefer a .450/400 Double Rifle myself.

There's no doubt that time is short for the 'ol .308. It's destined to joint the ranks of the has been's and never were's. Soon, the only place you can find one will be in museums, picture books and the tall tails recounted by old coots and codgers lamenting the passing of a once great cartridge, wiped out by that sinking, nasty "CREED!".

Move over boys, make room for another un loved cartridge :(

The cartridge on the right is fixing to kill a deer next weekend. It's a has been, but I have a soft spot for the underdog.

Don't know what possessed you to do such a fancy, accurate, deer rifle, then have it chambered for a round that barely kills a deer at a hundred yards. The stock's target grip will probably catch on every tree limb in the back forty. Just to help get you out of this jam, I'd give you $50 for it and you can run out and get a nice used H&R break-open in thuty-thuty, a real deer calibererer.

If you decide to keep the new rifle instead, we all hope you don't accidentally shoot your foot off with it. ;)

Beautiful. Deep end to be sure! They say "Aim small, miss small." You'll be able to pick the flea you want to nail ... as long as you get close enough for that anemic cartridge. :)

Ive been waiting to see. How does it shoot?

I’m having some difficulty finding an accurate load and it shouldn’t be this hard. I’ve documented my struggles on the reloading forum here

https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/sierra-308-gamechangers-and-some-others-now.843851/

My opinion at this point is it’s a barrel issue. PROOF says their carbon fiber barrels are:

“.....match-grade accurate and experience no point-of-impact shift during high-volume fire.....”

I’m not finding either of those statements to be true at this point. I’ll be testing more loads today and tomorrow, as well as trying to isolate other potential causes, but if it’s not better by the end of the weekend it’s going back to the smith.
