Just picked up my DPMS LR308 with stainless 24" fluted barrel yesterday. Wanted some suggestions on loads. I will be using it mostly for hunting. Thanks

You could have just continued it in your other thread.....

There are many twists for a .308 and I think DPMS uses either 1:10 and 1:12 (I think as mine is 1:10 with the 7.62 JP barrel).

Off the top of my head...... so I would need to check but:
1:9 stabilizes heavy bullets >220gr.
1:10 stabilizes up to 220 gr.
1:11 stabilizes up to 190 gr.
1:12 stabilizes up to 170 gr.
1:13 stabilizes up to 160 gr.
1:14 stabilizes up to 150 gr.

There are different coefficients for each and so no one bullet is going to give you the magic number as it really depends on your barrel and load (yeah ambiguous answer but it really is not fix all solution). The good news is that the .308 is one of the most researched cartridges in terms of accuracy in the world. That being said you can find lots of great articles and load data very easily.

If you reload (which I do not) the 155 Lapua is great for anything that is 1:9 through 1:13 twist. If you do not reload (my category) then the 168gr. Sierra MatchKing in Federal Gold Medal and Blackhills come to mind as good choices. And for distance the 175gr. bullets have been doing well at Camp Perry.

But if your hunting (which is what you said in your other thread) I would suggest not using any FMJ or FMJBHP and opt for a hunting bullet such as Corbon, Federal core-lock, or even a good soft point from Wolf Gold line (the brass casings) are decent choices.
