Hi Everyone

Just wanted to share a few photos of my new little big carry gun G39... It is the not so popular .45gap .. It impressed me when i first saw that it is the same exact size as the model G26/27 and 33 but shooting a big fat .45cal projectile ..for glock to fit a 45cal in such a small low profile frame sold me on the gun... The gap if no one is familiar with it..has identical balistics to the 45acp ..Ammo is not hard to find either, most of my local gun shops carry a few boxes..Below i have posted a few pics with a comparison to my Glock 21sf with 50GI conversion..This is an awesome conceal carry weapon..I highly recommend it..

I don't much care for the baby Glocks, but that G21 in .50GI is just downright sexy!

I love my g30 for ccw in any climate. You'll love yours too, im sure.

I don't think you'll enjoy the GAP ammo though... its really rare and quite a niche ammo, at least thats what I've seen.

Thanx for the replies..So far so good im enjoying every minute of my new Compact 39... I find that the Ammo isnt too hard to come by..i have a few places here that stock them at a fair price..also basspro has boat load of them too.. What has impressed me the most is the Small Size and weight of the pistol shooting a fat ass round :) ..My 50cal is currently my night stand gun and Range gun.. It always turns heads :) but i needed something a little more smaller to walk around with during my daily conceal carry..

Nice choice! I recently went back to a g27 as my off-duty gun. I'm sure you will be pleased with your new gun.

...I REALLY want one of those .50GI's... how bad is the kick on that thing?

A year ago, I replaced my Glock 30 with a Glock 39 as my daily carry gun.
The Glock 39 conceals better and is easier to carry.

I settled on the Glock 39 after testing the Glock 26, 27, 33 & 39.
For me the Glock 39 was more accurate than the others and had less felt recoil than the Glock 27 & 33.

Since buying .45GAP ammo in bulk costs almost the same as .45ACP, ammo cost was not that big a factor.

Wait...you guys are having no trouble finding .45GAP ammo and it's the same price as ACP? That's impossible. I've been saying that for years and everyone here tells me I'm crazy...

Nice Glock! My primary carry is my the Glock 36. For such a small package, I can easily group well at 7 yards, and the recoil is so manageable.

Back when ammo was nearly impossible to find I never had a problem getting .45gap. The little gun makes a lot of sense, especially with a plus-1 grip extension.

yeah you are right..because i remeber when ammo was hard to find.. i was able to get ammo for my 50gi without any problems...I could order boxes at a time with no limit restrictions.. I guess there is a brighter side to these odd ball calibers :)

Congrats.

I tend to like the subcompact 9/.40 Glocks, myself. The G26 is my favorite model produced across the entire Glock model line.

I thought about the G39 myself, but eventually decided not buy one for a couple of reasons that have nothing to do with G39 itself.

First, I still tend to prefer 230gr JHP loads in my .45's, and that wasn't one of the offerings I saw on the shelves of the gun stores I checked from time to time.

Second, I already have a S&W CS45 which is reasonably in the subcompact range (3.25" barrel) and uses a 6-rd magazine.

While I wouldn't necessarily mind owning yet a 10th .45 caliber gun ... (and I plan on buying probably a M&P 45c and a Performance Center hand-built SW1911 in the next several months) ... the lack of the heavier 230gr loads in the .45GAP still causes me a slight hesitation, strictly from a personal preference.

I'd be willing to try the lighter load using the all-copper Barnes bullet, but that hasn't been easily found on the shelves where I've stopped in various gun stores, and the one store which did have some priced it really high. The cost of buying several hundred rounds for random function testing in my gun (to check QC consistency among lots) and putting the rest back for carry use would be a bit prohibitive for what I'd prefer.

Congrats again on the new G39, though. It's a nice addition to the small subcompact model line (meaning ignoring that they still call their G30 & G29 subcompacts :neener: ).

How is felt recoil and concealabilty compared to the 27? I'm currently contemplating a 27 or M&P 40c but if dimensions and recoil are comparable I may give the 39 a try before I buy.

FYI.
Winchester, Federal, Magtech, DoubleTap and Sellier & Bellot now offer 230gr .45GAP ammo.

Thanks.

I was aware of Winchester being the first to offer it, but it isn't commonly stocked at any of the stores where I've checked in the commercial loads and the cost of a case or two of T-Series .45GAP is still a bit expensive, even when purchased at the individual LE price.

Federal would be my distant 2nd choice, and it's definitely not easily found locally in the heavier bullet weight.

I would like to see Speer offer it, but it apparently doesn't interest them.

The other brands you listed are not ones which interest me for use in my guns. I did try some S&B.45 ACP a few times, back when Winchester was briefly contracting with them in order to meet production demands in their USA line.

Did you see the acquisition last year involving CBC and their involvement with a couple of the brands you listed? http://www.magtechammunition.com/Introductory-Letter.pdf

I know Speer makes it, as I have some. But maybe, based on your post, they discontinued it. "Wait a minute," I thought, this IS the internet! Let's have a look-see and find out........

I found this in less than TEN SECONDS..........

Google is your friend.....

No 230gr .45GAP loads listed that I can see on those lists (which I actually double checked before my previous post, just in case Speer had decided to come up with one since I last checked).

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear that I was referring to 230gr loads in my previous posting, though. It was a continuation of my earlier post (#14) and Quiet's response in #15.

The only thing I don't like about the G39 is the capacity....

6+1 rounds of .45GAP vs 9+1 rounds of .40S&W in my G27.

6+1 rounds of .45GAP vs 9+1 rounds of .40S&W in my G27.

There's something to be said for that for some folks. The .45GAP is obviously marketed to .45 caliber enthusiasts, and they could stuff so many rounds in the little frame.

I've had the similar thoughts about the 6-rd magazine capacity of my CS45 and my "original" 4513TSW ... but then I remember I spent many years carrying a 6-shot service revolver and a Colt Combat Commander with a 7-rd magazine, and I finished my career carrying a new production 4513TSW with a 7-round magazine. ;)

I realize my G26's and SW999c have a 2-rd advantage in magazine capacity over my 3913, and a 3-rd advantage over my CS9 ... but sometimes it doesn't bother me at all. :)

I can see why the small G39 .45GAP would have a following of folks who want a .45 caliber Glock, but want it to be smaller than the G30/36's.

Of course, my M&P 40c has a 1-rd mag capacity advantage (10-rd mag) over my G27 with stock 9-rd mags. ;)

And a fine choice the M&P 40c is too.

In fact, in my opinion, the M&P is the next best thing to a Glock. ;)

I have the pearce grip extension for it,so i get 7+1 .45 big boys...My whole idea in buying this weapon is to have a glock the size of the G27/26 but shooting a heavy fat ass round...and 7+1 aint too bad considering some full size 1911s only carry 6+1...As for 230gr hollow point..i have a box of 50 from winchester and i believe magtech makes the guardian gold hollow points in GAP..here are the pics below...

I use the Winchester Ranger 230 Grain (both the new bonded and the original) in my 39 and 38. The lack of 230 SD rounds also steered me away for a while but not any more.

S&B uses large pistol primers in their 230 grain FMJ ammo and I had a batch that the primers were super hard, many required at least two strikes on the primer, some as many as 4 strikes. and it wasn't the firing pin as the same gun has fired numerous other 45 gap ammo from other makers with no issues.

Why do they use large primers? They aren't using 45ACP cut down are they?

I havent tried the S&B ammo...I have some for my 12gauge but not my gap..I dont know why they use large primers..but the American Eagle,Remington UMC and Winchesters have cycled 100% since ive had G39...My next purchase will be a batch of Reeds Ammo,,he makes some really good stuff like double tap... I have some of his ammo for my 454casull and that ammo is at the top of its game..here is a link to his website http://shop.reedsammo.com/category.sc?categoryId=18
