No its not a type-o. Heres my new marlin 600, shes a good looking rifle for sure.(hate mags sticking out of rifles) I have no idea why its a 600 instead of a 60 i assume its some special version they made for a bit. Cant find it on the web or marlins website. Took her to the range shooting with iron sites and she feed with no problems. And today i am mounting my mystery scope on her. So thats why the scope does not have the top parts of the rings on.

Got her for 150 out the door or close to 115 sticker price. I know you can find cheaper ones but there are none close to me so with shipping its not worth it. Not to mention this is the old version with a 22inch barrel and a 18 rd tube mag. I would love to know when she was made does anyone know how to decode the serial?

Heres a full body shoot, sorry i am bad at taking good pics

lol that would be funny, after doing research with google i have found three things about it.

2 other people are offering one for auction but they could of had a typo?

1 guy saying he has a marlin 99c that later became a marlin 600. Some sort of special walnut version stock.

the rest was about marlin fish weighting 600 pounds??

ps found this in a nra mag

The 99C had its receiver grooved for tip-off scope mounts in 1964. Initially supplied with an uncheckered walnut stock, the 99C had impressed checkering added in 1971, and the checkering pattern was changed again at least twice more before the rifle was discontinued in 1978. A deluxe version of the 99C with an American walnut stock, the Model 990, was offered from 1979-1987.

From Wiki:

Through about 1971, the first two numbers of the serial number correspond to the year. # 70698590 would have been made in 1970. After that, you have to subtract the first two numbers from 2000 to get the year. # 17873845 would have been made in 1983. They have since switched back to the old method.

Congrats on the older model... You'll love the 18 round capacity.

two things, yes they did make a 600, it was a special run, for a store, or an association of some type, I can't remember. now then, if it has the last shot bolt hold open lever, on the right side of the trigger guard, sticking down and out of it a bit, then it was made between 85, and 88. they are considered the holy grails of the mod 60's, becuase only those 3 years, did they have the long feed tube, long bbl, and the last shot lever. Starting in 89, they shortened the feed tube to where it is today, 14.

It sure is... lucky dog!!!! and it is fan freakin tastic shape as well. it even looks like you've got
some old japanese glass up top, can you get any better on a buy with one rifle???
you seriously need to go get a lotto ticket...

I would say the scope is a knock off of sorts; a weaver old school scope, made in japan under the name of either something like universal, or maybe Western Field(?) A very decent scope nonetheless.

Acutely the scope did not come with the rifle. But i did buy it at the same time, you are right its a universal wow your good, i have no idea about the scope quality so i posted it here on the forums. I was comparing it to another scope they had for 25 bucks but this one had way better optics.

It came with weaver mounts but the wrong size so i had to buy some .22lr ones, but i figure i will use the weaver at a later date.

All in all i spent 150 rifle 25 scope and 30 for the rings/free rings for another rifle. So just over 200 not bad, i thought at the time, but it sounds like i got a good haul. That shop just became my best friend

Marlin 600

The Marlin 600 is basically a Model 60 made for Big 5 Sporting goods in the late 80's. Marlin's Customer Service will give further information by calling
800 544-8892. Serial # will give the year of manufacture. Most parts from the Model 60's are the same.

Thanks for the info on the Marlin 600. I picked one up a few years back at a pawn shop in a package deal with a Savage 110 30-06. I hadn't heard of a Model 600 only the Model 60, but I couldn't tell the difference so I told them to wrap them up, got both for $200 out the door.

The 600 had a little daisy 4x15 scope on it. I tried to find info out but didn't have any luck.

It is nice to find out what the story is.

I put a Simmons 22mag scope on it and it is a good little shooter.

Thanks again!
