Hi all. I just got back from the range with my new(to me) Springfield 87A. I was really happy with they way it performed.

The only issues I had with it was when I tried to use shorts in it. I had 1 that worked its way under the loading ramp and got stuck in the stock then proceeded to jam it up.
I ran some Mini Mags and Fed bulk pack through it and other than the issues with the 22 shorts it fed and fired flawlessly.
Accuracy was really good also. Doing my part I was able to constantly get about a 1.5" group at 25yds. The groups were hitting a bit to the left though so next time Ill have to drift the front sight to try and fix that.
Id like to try and find a scope mount for it but I cant seem to locate one on the web. Does anyone have an idea where I can get one for this gun? Any help would be appreciated.

We you shoot shorts in it you have to lock the bolt by pushing it in. after it fires you treat it like a bolt action unlock, eject, close, and lock. Shorts Do not have the recoil to work by itself

Yeah, thats the way I was working it. It was doing fine until I had one work its way into the stock, then I just switched back the 22lr's and it worked just fine. It just seemed like the shorter case made it easier to work its way under the loading ramp.

I also own a this same gun. It's my first i love it. I shoot mostly mini mags but it can fire cheap rounds too. I think you can tap out the back barrel and install a weaver mount.

Is yours drilled and tapped for a scope or do you have the 3/8 grooves on top? If its drilled and tapped, Weaver still makes a mount for it. The old N2 Weaver scope mounts also work for drilled and tapped guns. Try looking at http://www.midwayusa.com for a scope mount or keep your eyes open at gun shows, gun smiths, or old gun shops. The old scope mounts for these were common and they may have one laying around. I found mine at a gun show with a Weaver B6 scope for $5 and I have since seen others in old gun shops.

I bought one of these rifles and it has become one of my favorite rifles. Mine will shoot anything I put in it and its very accurate. It was well worth the $89 I payed for it.

candr44- Its drilled and tapped already. Ive been looking for a N2 mount for awhile but so far Ive only been able to find the new ones weaver is making. Im wanting to try and find one of the old steel mounts before I try the new aluminum ones. Its one of my .22s I have the most fun with especially how the action works.

OcelotZ3 That's a different looking stock... Is that a painted Tennite?

I actually thought it was plastic myself when I first bought it but when I got it home and took it apart I realized it was actually the original wood stock just painted black. Whoever did it had did a good enough job you couldnt tell it had been painted. I ended up sanding it down and refinishing it.
