Shot this nice 4 year-old eight point last weekend right before dark. Another five minutes and it would have been too dark. Had not seen him on my trail camera. I have actually been watching a big five year-old 11 point on my trail camera for the past three years but had not seen him since opening morning when it was still too dark to take a safe shot. I guess there is a reason they survive that long! I guess he will get another year since our county only allows one buck with an inside spread greater than 13".

Anyway, this eight point came out from the woods pretty fast on the right about 20 yards from my stand and into the woods on the left. A few seconds later two does came out of the woods on the left next to my feeder 50 yards from my stand. A few seconds later the buck came out behind the does pushing one of them pretty hard. He had his nose up the doe's butt, and I did not hesitate to shoot. He never stopped walking, but I got a clean shoulder shot and he dropped immediately using my Winchester M70 .270 with 130 gr. Federal Fusion.

He measured 17" inside and probably scored about 130. He weighed about 145-150 on the hoof and 120 dressed. His neck measured 19". He was in full rut still, which is kind of late for where we are. I hunt near Perrin in Jack County, TX. And no, I was not on drugs in the picture. The flash plus the fact I had only had two hours sleep did not lend to a photogenic picture. It's about the deer anyway.
