Some of you may have seen the thread about an old 870 SP that I had picked up at a pawn shop last week. The stock was it pretty tough shape and the action was so gummed up when I stripped it down and cleaned it chucks of grease etc. came out.

I spent a few days cleaning it up and put a new barrel on it. It's ready to run a few rounds through.

I have more work to do on the stock and I have a new recoil pad coming for it. It may not be black and evil, and it surely isn't a tac-cool HD shotgun but the action runs like butter!

Old School, just they way I like it! :)

Thing is.. shotgun like that it is more likely the shooter knows how to use it instead of a wannabe with their ridiculous tacticool shotgun. See that Mossberg new tactical thing with the PG and flash suppressor as an example.

I'd be proud to use that shotgun, I like a little character in my guns!

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it.

Kevin - it was built in 1988

I actually collect used and abused 870s.
There is nothing like a worn Wingmaster.
Nice gun you got there.

devilc, I currently have three, although the other two don't have quite the experience that this one has. ;)

The pawn shop that I got this one from has a 12 ga WM lefty (which I am) and 16 ga WM that I'd like to pick up also. There both well used and reasonable. They also have two Md 31's and a Md 11, if they all stay there long enough I may own them all! :uhoh:

Other than putting swivel rings and a Pachy Decelerator butt pad on mine, it's set up like yours. My 870 is a short barrel ex-police model and has plain walnut stocks. I love that old Wingmaster. Old school tactical all the way!

I guess I'll make my very first post on THR count... and include myself in the list of guys that 'get it'.... This is my early 90's 870 Express Magnum 12ga. I hate the look and feel of synthetic...

Not a thing wrong with the look and feel of wood and steel. Count me in as another old school shotgunner.

You guys just joined People for the Ethical Treatment of Pumpguns.

Congrats!

PETP is a service organization dedicated to rescuing old, neglected or abused pumpguns from durance vile in pawnshops, closets, etc.

You have done well, but there's much work to be done.

Carry on....

PETP I like that Dave.

I think old shotguns are like old dogs, they still want to work, just point them in the right direction!

Very nice!!!!

Makes me fondly remember my ex Boston PD 870 I owned many ,many years ago. Alas I had to sell it to pay off a very expensive speeding ticket.

How a shotgun looks is not a viable measure of skill.

gun

I am starting the process of converting an old 870 to a home defense gun. I like the 870 because of reliability. WHo cares what it looks like. Just need.......BOOM BOOM BOOM

You missed my point.

Looking for one just like that as a backup. Nice job cleaning it up. Bill

Quite the experience? :)
Brother - that one is brand new compared to some of mine. :)
Seriously - it looks like a gem. I think you got a great deal!
I just picked up a pair of beat to snot 60's-era WMs from a pawnshop. . . . Pics to follow.
