Had to share.

I love my 9mm 220. Don't shoot it much though (read on). I bought it at my local store NIB for $500 even. Got home and was reading the a hangun referance (don't remember the name) and it mentioned that they quit makeing 9mm 220s in 1994. Well I got mine out because I figured that that couldn't be. But mine had the newer grips, blue box, and American release so I knew it was newer than 1994. All the numbers match (on the gun and box). So I call Sig. I go through numerous reps who are running the number and telling me it must be an error and there's no way I could have that pistol. So finally I end up talking to one of the big dogs and he says that my pistol was a one off made in 1998 along with a .38 Super. The guy e-mailed me a day later and said that Sig would buy it back for $1500!! I turned them down though. Well, just thought I'd share my 220 story.

Crappy pics (sorry had to take w/ video camera):

Good for you. Every once in a while the good guys score.

I have something like that. Couple years ago I bought a S&W M25-2 from a guy in Gun List newspaper. Only when I received it, the barrel didn't say, "Model of 1955" like it's supposed to. It said, "Model of 1950."

Turns out, once upon a time at S&W, somebody misstamped the 1955 barrels with the 1950 logo. Did it to about 200 barrels before they realized it. But S&W, being the frugal company they were, decided to use the barrels anyway.

I really like the revolver, but that adds character.

Pinned, I love guns like your Smith. I usually go out of my way to find stuff like that.

Highveloicity, someone will either 1)have to offer me an insane amount of money for it or 2)pry it from my cold dead hands bfore I'll get rid of it. I love it.:)

I know the guy that has the .38. He doesn't know what it is though. I keep twisting his arm to sell it to me, so we'll see.

Awesome find!

I've had my eye out for a 220 in 9mm for a while, but have yet to see one for sale.

CDNN usually has a few older trade-ins. Gunlist and Shotgun news also usually have a few.

I must admit that I am happier with my 400 dollar .45 sig p220, but that sure is one awesome colectable. Its hard enough to find parts for the .45's but I've never seen parts for a 9mm p220, nor have I ever seen a complete gun for sale. Are 9mm p220's mostly found in Europe?

My understanding is that the older 9 mm 220s (before they quit making them) where mostly shipped w/ euro releases and most of the few American releases went to LE; though I have seen them on gunbroker every once an a while.

CAnnoneer, its not a safe queen it gets shot. I love the way it shoots and that's why I'm keeping it, not for the "name" value. That's just a bonus.

I would have sold it back, and bought two or three SIG 9mms instead (or an X-Five).

Its a novelty and unusual, but if you start shooting it, any collector value attached to the gun is probably lost. And, in the final analysis, its just a slightly nicer 9mm P-220.
