Well guys like I mentioned in my other thread I recently got my .40 Caliber Walther P99 2005 edition. I have not gone to the range yet so no range report on the pistol, but I can say that I love the look and feel of this gun compared to others I have played with.

I have a question though. On the Walther website, for quite sometime now, they have had posted the amount of catridges that this magazine can take; it is 10. When I received the pistol I was told that the laws had changed a while back and that now you can carry more than 10 and that my .40 came with the capability of 12+1.

Call me a wuss, but I can only fit 11 max and can't do anymore. Not to mention that it is not 12+1 because my friend was able to force a 12th one in and the pistol will not take a full catridge of 12 without pulling the slide into position and then having it snap in causing the catridge to go into the chameber. So it is really 12 in total not 12+1.

I've been looking for a polymer framed .40 for some time and I too like the look of the Walther P99. Congrats on your new purchase and let us know how it shoots!

Congratulations on picking up one of the best polymer pistols out there (IMHO). If it's anything like mine in .40 it'll work and shoot great! And it is 12+1, when you see it referred to this way it means 12 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. So after chambering a round you would either have to put a fresh fully loaded magazine in or take the magazine out and add the last round in. Now go shoot that pistol!

its hard but after a while you can fit 12 into it....
I left 12 into the magazine the first month or so.. after that I load just 10 when i target shoot. when carrying I carry 12.

I am still having trouble loading up to 12. I mean it seems almost impossible. We'll see.

Oh so excited to go shoot it because my girlfriend is coming and I can't wait until she shoots. I want her to get into handguns and knowing about them and how to use them, and she seems to be going in the right direction.

my 14 year old daughter can shoot my p99 its in .40 SW.
She likes it. Believe me it will wear in. Your magazines should say "for law enforcement only"

Mike,

Congrats on your P99. Be sure to post pictures of the gun when you can

For the magazine, load it up to your maximum eleven and leave it loaded for a night or two. Be sure to keep the gun away from the magazines for safety purposes.

The springs in the magazine is stiff. This should loosen it some.

Another way is to shoot the gun at 11 rds, this will cycle the springs in the magazine. Eventually, you'll be able to fit that last round in there.

Good luck!

I got a 9mm with 15 round mags earlier this year, and the first couple of times, the last few were really hard to get in there, but they load fine now. And mine don't have any LE markings, either, as they were produced after the ban was lifted.

I would just load the 11.. shoot w/ the eleven like the other guy said.. I know with mine it was kinda like that.. I was able to squeeze 12 in there. But. Racking the slide was a chore (with 12 in the magazine). after while it did loosen up a bit.

If you think 12 is bad, try loading 16!!! :banghead:
I have two 16 round 9mm mags for my P99 and it was a real :cuss: getting all 16 in for the first month or so!! The best bet is to load them up and leave them for a week (or two) them shoot the heck out of them until the spring loosens up!! You are SUPPOSED to be able to go 16+1: FORGITABOUTIT!!!

Loading 12 rounds into our L/E-marked SW99 .40 S&W magazines wasn't exactly 'easy', either. It took some effort, but it could be done. Not by everyone, though ...

After a few boxes of ammunition were fired through the magazines, most of them became easier to fully load ... although reseating a topped-off magazine in the loaded pistol required a deliberate, firm effort for a while longer.

My G26 & G27 magazines commonly exhibit this trait, and I usually leave them loaded 1-round 'down' for a few weeks, and then I can almost always fully load the proper number of rounds in them. Using them on the range also accelerates this process.

The springs will 'break in' ...

The P99 is a nice pistol, BTW. Congrats.

what you want to do is load it as high as it will go then repeatedly unload and load it. its not storing with rounds in that breaks it in or wears it down. its use either firing or by hand.
