Since CCI and Federal are part of the same company, does CCI make Federals primers?

I heard one one board that CCI expanded their primer production. Another board posted that CCI had equipment failure in the production line and was having problems making repairs.

Can anyone confirm either rumor?

Several TV shows have said that CCI has massive primer production capability. Where are all they going? Its amazing to think that everyone is that back ordered. While the hoarders must have huge caches in their closets.

I was lucky enough to start reloading back in early 07. I have a modest supply of SP,LP and LRM. Last week I purchased a .308. And am searching franticly for CCI BR2 or GM 210M. Anyone have a line on some, other than gunbroker?

I don't want to get into all the other statements you made in your thread but I can tell you without a doubt a company like CCI would have no problem getting anything they own fixed 24/7/365. You do realize CCI is owned by ATK which is primarily an Aerospace Company who has major contracts with NASA as well as defense contracts. They probably produce the machines used by CCI, Federal, Alliant, Speer, Weaver, RCBS, Gunslick and many others use.

I just don't think ATK would have any problems making repairs on CCI's primer production line.

Seems to me that it's just another rumor that constantly floats around gunshops and gunshows! Has Federal, Remington or Winchester had equipment problems also? Face it guys, we are the problem with us hoarding components due to some ridiculous non existent ban. No different than the gas crisis of the early 70's :banghead:

No. They are both owned by ATK but are manufactured in separate facilities. They are NOT the same primer and should not be used interchangably. Federal have the softest cups of any primer and are easier to ignite, while CCI have one of the hardest cups but are hotter.

All the ammunition manufacturers are running their production 24 hours a day, but the first groups of primers made will be going into assembled ammunition. Why? Because they have a higher profit margin on them. There are also other contracts, such as military (which has the Lake City plant's attention), and state and local law enforcement. Their needs come before civilian, which in turn comes before the handloader. As far as a broken machine, this is the first time I've heard of it, but is most likely an internet rumor.

The tension is being let up and primers are starting to become available again. I went to my small hometown and picked up 5,000 primers a couple of weeks ago. I reload for myself, my father in law, my sister, and my other father in law, so they'll be loaded soon. We've also seen primer coming back into stock at Powder Valley (certain makes and models) and they are letting backorders be ordered again. Natchez and Midway have also had them available, but only for about 5 minutes.

When everyone just steps back and takes a few breaths we should be alright again.

There is the truth. Its amazing how many in the gun community that make quotes about sheep and sheeple and whatnot are no different themselves. The only redeeming factor is that alot of people are stuck with crap they cant afford or cant even use. Good for them, I hope when they go broke they can eat those 25K primers they had to have, even though they dont reload yet.

Starting to see people selling off their stockpile lately. Even here people selling ammo and primers for what they paid for em this spring then saying they are "just trying to get their money back". I think its funny guys on here selling 50 round boxes of 9mm for 15-20 bucks I laugh my way over to Wal Mart and buy WWB 100 round value packs for 19.95. Now if primers would just loosen up local shops are still selling them for 40-50 bucks per 1k.

Not me. Had it for years, will continue to have it. I did not have to slow up for this shortage, and I won't for the next one, without buying stuff others need. I bought it when it was plentiful, and will again someday.

What you are seeing is the "Oh s***, I paid too much and I better sell it before I can't get my money back" folks.

I am a youngun (25) and had just got into reloading last year before the elections kinda sucked cuz right after I got the hang of it supplies started drying up, but I seen it coming and was able to accumalate enough ammo and supplies to last about 2 years before the end of last December. But I find it hard to tear into my stockpile to go to the range or load a new batch. I still try to find those items locally and save my current supplies.

the "problem" is that the mfg's also need to make ammunition from those primers......and gov't contracts come first. They are running 24/7 (from ALL of the makers I saw at the SHOT show), and they just can't keep up. The recent election saw a surge of gun sales and ammunition sales that was unseen........sooner or later, those folks who bought when prices were high will settle down and things will get back to some sense of normalcy.....

I saw the rumor on the SASS Wire that CCI had a primer machine break down and replacement parts not available until 2011. Sounds like something a clerk would tell a caller to get rid of him, even though claimed to be from an "inside source".

Yep. Horse Hockey. They lose too much money when machines are down. Machines don't stay down long, wether it is at CCI or Ford, or wherever.

We spent almost $2000 to fly a $12,000 part here to the hospital a few months ago, just to fix the hot water. (Armstrong converter) They can get things fixed. :)

I HOPE the component makers haven't taken the rigged bait and expanded their facilites to accommicate the current rush. It's fear driven by Chicken Littles and will fade. After it does any expanded excess capacity would be a drag on the company's financial base and I want them all to stay healthy.

But, I have NO sympathy for those dummies who have been paying whatever it took to grab large quanities of everything in sight for themselves or to resale at even higher prices.

I heard Powder Valley is getting Wolf primers in but I don't know for sure because I don't have anything on backorder. I have everything I need for now and didn't have to buy during this current "shortage" that was really a price gouge fest.

When the prices drop and supplies are good I'll replace what I used this year.
