Here is my R/C Mauser. I removed what was left of the shellac, cleaned it as much as possible, without ruining it. and then oiled it. Here are the pics.

I have researched the waffenamts on the parts, all date from 1942 or earlier. The barrel & Reciever are a Mauser Work, Oberndorf, 1940.

The barrel band has a screw hole, potentially a field fix on another mauser, or a late war band?

I find myself finding another one already. :D Lets see some pictures of your R/C mausers.

One most definitely turns to two, it did with me (both Russuan Captures and 1941, a bnz and bcd), and hopefully it won't be long until number three. I picked up a Yugo 24/47 in the mean time, and tomorrow will be picking up, out of layaway, a Swedish Mauser and a Spanish Mauser Model 1916 short rifle.

Storm,
Just wondering where you picked up the M24/47? Here in Georgia? I have been considering picking up one of these also. Also, what can one expect to pay locally?

Dont you need three so the cleaning rods can be long enough to clean the barrel...... ;)

That is after you buy the screw, hood, & cleaning rod kit..... X3

Mike, I live in North Fulton County, and just north of here in Cumming, up at Forsyth County Pawn (770-889-6564) earlier this month they had a bunch of 24/47 for just under $200. While they only had two up front in the shop they took me into the back storage area and let me open boxes of them to pick the right one. I gave up after three as they were all really nice and I could have spent all day picking.

They also had a nice non-Russian Capture vet bringback for $700 that I really didn't want to begin to look at.

The Yugos really are rather nice.

Ohio Gun Guy has it right, it took three cleaning rods to make one for use. I had to add a cleaning rod and sight hood on both of my Russian Captures, and the lower one is shown before they were added. [Caution: the reproduction cleaning rods are often a very, very tight fit and there are two cleaning rod lengths and you need to measure before you order one.] Even before the Russians got to these rifles sight hoods were often gone. Also, those captive screws are very important. I keep ending up with extra ones, so I have to keep buying K98s!

Also, the Yugos, at least the ones that I picked from Forsyth, have sight hoods, cleaning rods, and captive screws. One thing that I love about the K98 is that it's a very compact rifle, and the Yugo is even just a bit shorter. I hope to find an M48. There are probably better prices on Yugos on the Net, but once you pay shipping and transfer it's probably just as good to go with a shop sale, and it's nice to pick one in person if you can. That's why I always have a Coast bore light in the glovebox. Ya never know.

It will get expensive if you keep squaring the no. of Mausers everytime you buy. :neener:

Yes, the progression of Mausers seems to be geometric rather than arithemetic.

BTW, I'm really excited about the Swedish Mauser. It's one rifle that really seems to be widely lauded, and are often, like mine, in wonderful condition.

As you should be they are great rifles. Need pics upon arrival! :D

I found an already modified m96 last summer and finished it. :D

I will indeed warm up the camera for this one. Maybe I'll start a "Show us your milsurp" thread.
