At school today we watched an idiotic movie called "Bang Band you're dead" about school shooter wannabe's.. it was anti gun to say the least. If you haven't seen it, spare your self ugh it was stupid.. about as anti gun as it gets.

Gotta agree that it is an anti bullying theme instead of an anti gun themed movie.

But it happened at a school! And we all know all schools and all products associated therewith are Anti-Gun(tm).

Although I am quite regularly shocked at the amount of effort school shave to put in to prevent violence of the non physical kind. Talk about a violence problem at school. o_O

Um..didn't you hear the part listing the things you can do "with a gun".. Not to mention the play they preform is about a hunter-turned mass murderer

Sure, but the point is that a hunter can potentially go nuts. Being a hunter and going nuts is not neccesarily a chain of events though.
What I'm trying to say is that of course a gun owner can potentially go on a shooting spree. If he weren't a gun owner he couldn't shoot anyone now, could he?

The problem is that data like "people who own guns are more likely to shoot people than people who don't own guns" is accurate. It's also largely useless data. But it is factually correct. 8)

What I am saying is how they portray gun owners/ basically they seemed to say anyone who has a gun has it to feel powerful.

How about 'people who are sociopathic acquire guns to commit vicious crimes.'
Certainly not everyone who's commited these crimes has had a gun. Some
develop the desire to commit the crime and then acquire the means.
Although I will concede some may as stated already have them.

Well yes. You're right. But I am too, kinda.

So somebody decides to go shoot up a school, right? They aquire a gun (presumably legal, since they haven't snapped yet) ... and are now a gun owner. All I am saying is that it is incredibly hard to do a "gun crime" without a gun.

It's like saying "not only car owners wreck cars, but also people who want to go places in cars and bought them for that reason." So .... car owners?

Mom: Is your gun still locked?
Dad: (checking trigger lock) yep, it is locked
Mom: Is there anywhere else he could get a gun?
Dad: (with a somewhat concerned look) I don't know..

it is lines like these that make me think the movie is calling for gun control of sorts. Just me though

Look at how the kid was behaving, would you not check to make sure your weapons were secure? That was not about gun control that was about self preservation! If it were about gun control the parents would not have had a home defense weapon in the first place.

I didn't watch it, but how does a gun that is trigger locked qualify as a home defense weapon?

Once locked, is about a useful as a golf club..

If you have the key it can be unlocked in seconds!

This is for California where the movie was likely produced so it makes sense that with a minor child in the home the gun was trigger locked.

Summary of Safe Storage Laws Regarding Children
You may be guilty of a misdemeanor or a felony if you keep a loaded firearm within any premises that are under your custody or control and a child under 18 years of age obtains and uses it, resulting in injury or death, or carries it to a public place, unless you stored the firearm in a locked container or locked the firearm with a locking device to temporarily keep it from functioning.

Until you unlock it. Many people feel better having a lock because of kids. You can unlock it after locking it with a key you know. Not everyone is a gun person and has a nice little handgun safe and just opts for the trigger lock.

Ya know, with my wife being 33, and myself being 27.. and both of us not that much longer until we finish school and re-start our lives in new careers..

I've been wondering how to handle the "kid" issue.

I sleep with a pistol or two on or in my nightstand, have loaded guns in the house only behind a piece of locked glass (planning a gun safe to begin with in the not-so distant future)..

How do you keep the same level of protection, but find a reasonable compromise?

trigger locks are not anti-gun...unless the government mandates that we all have trigger locks no matter what.

Trigger locks are a good way to keep children from accessing firearms. If that's the direction a parent wants to take, so be it, that's their call. Every situation is unique.

Columbine has taught us that spree killers, like other criminals, aren't going to follow the laws regarding guns.

It is intellectually lazy to take isolated incidents and claim that it shows gun owners are sociopaths. It is also lazy to look at movie depicting a sociopath who uses a gun and say that it's anti gun.
