I owned one years ago just like it. The 835 has to be one of the most versatile 12 gauge shotguns that I have ever owned. From light 2 3/4" game loads for grouse, 3" high brass for pheasant, 3 1/2" steel for geese, and my favorite 3 1/2" heavy shot for turkeys .

Yes, it will shoot 2 3/4" shells just fine, I've shot 22's- 23's with a 24" barrel at the trap range with mine,
I wouldn't shoot a 3 1/2" out of mine again for money!!:)
The 3 1/2" turkey loads are brutal. I had a 24" woodland camo version after the 28" (like pictured m). The recoil is comparable to a lightweight 338 win mag. But it is effective!

I bought one new with both barrels in the early 2000s at Walmart for 400. Some ugly camo color. It's been an excellent shotgun. With the ported barrel I actually felt like 3.5 inch recoil was pretty mild. Definitely softer than some of my old light pumps with a stout buckshot or slug load.

Make sure the big flat head screw inside the ejection port is tight..... it will lock up the gun if it's backing out. Other than that they run well

I got one with the green synthetic furniture that was my primary (and now a backup) goose gun for years. I did upgrade the but pad to a Limbsaver and the chokes to a set of Kick’s High Flyer chokes and it works great.
