Yes, they are! I'm missing a Tenacious. I'd like to get one, but priorities...

John

..since u all talk about them all the time...
i guess they MUST BE very good.

Am i the only one here, who finds spydercos designs
unbelievably fugly???

The only spydies I have are a couple of lady bugs, but they have stood up for some very heavy use considering the compact size.

Yeah, they may be fugly, but people said the same thing about my old 66 VW, and my BMW boxer twins. But the beauty was in the function.

You cretin! Or crouton, or whatever! :p

(yeah i knew b4 that we can´t discuss taste.)

Try out one of the Salts made with H-1 steel. It contains no carbon in the steel so it will never rust. I collect Spydies (yeah, you never get used to the looks) and my Tasman Salt has become my primary chore knife over the past 1.5 years.

Ya, I used to think fugly till I started to use it. Best one hand design ever,
But then I have a high point carbine,
not even gonna talk about the dog, or my first wife!!!

Hey Doc. What do you think of the Tenacious?

I have a Bird Cara Cara that is darn good. Very good for a $25 knife. Not on par with my Native though fit and finish wise.

Hey Doc... Whats your opinion on Todd A's Internet connection?

I have Road Runner and like it a lot. Great for the $$$$.
(Just messing with you)
On the subject of Spydercos, I have but one, an Endura in ZDP-189. Love it, and it is fugly.
The GLOCK knife is not ugly. It it good looking in a classic, bayonetish way.

I have a Salt that's my primary beach fishing knife. I had some kydex sheaths made up for it, including a nekcer sheath that I wear on a beaded chain. It's a great setup and they really don't rust.

A Salt is one of the Spydies I'd most like next. Well, that and a Tenacious. And a Phoenix. I'd really like a Phoenix.

John

Todd,The tenacious is great, 8CrMoV is sal's version of 440C, But for 39.00 the native in S30V at wally mart is unbeatable. And it is made in USA

CWL,

H1 does have a little carbon in it, but the content is 1/10th that of standard blade steels (0.15 vs 0.8 to 1.5). The nitrogen does replace a considerable portion of the carbon.

While I don't have any of the newer Spydies, John can attest that I might have one or two (or more) around the house.

Amusing Spydie story. I was working from home this afternoon and happened be dressed in T-shirt and sweat pants as I headed out the door to pick up my daughter from school. As we were headed out of the school the father of a trio of her classmates was in the entrance with his kids. Being a gunny we stopped to chat. One of his kids apparently handed a small bag of some candy to him to open and he was talking and trying to open the thing. His attention shifted from our conversation to the bag since it wouldn't tear. He commented on how the new poly packaging was so tough and I commented "need a knife?". "Yeah!" was the response from him so I pulled the Spyderco Military I had stuffed in my waistband and opened it and pinched the blade between thumb and index finger to expose only about 1/2 inch to view to anyone other than the other dad and myself. Chuckling he held the bright green package up properly so I could cut half the top off and nodded as I put the big folder back in place. He went on to tell a funny story about an old buddy and a meal worm infested candy bar. BTW, the other dad is the guy that makes the barrels for Barrett and we were talking about Ronny not wanting to get involved with a bunch of crazy government scientists I know due to a "negative" previous experience. You could say he's a gunny.

That's a ball bearing lock. The only way for the lock to fail is for the bearing to be crushed- IOW, the blade will fail long before the lock. Not the most convenient lock to release, but definitely the strongest.

John

Thanks HSO, all I know is that I don't need to 'baby' this knife. Mine is in bright yellow and I use it all the time with nobody ever getting startled by this "tool".

Regarding ball-bearing locks, I have knives with them. They are really 'weird' and I don't like working them. Maybe I'm just too old for newfangled contraptions.
