I'm glad you heard him breaking in. I'm sure he got a parole violation because he told them he didn't think anyone was home. It should have mattered that when you told him you were armed he kept coming. To me at least, that means he didn't care if someone were home. His penalty should have been MUCH stiffer, but welcome to the criminal justice system.

There is no way I would still be living in the same place with that knucklehead coming over occasionally. I know all about being broke and not being able to do things when you want. You my friend, need to scrimp, save, whatever just get out of there before he decides to get even. He probably wouldn't be coming unarmed or alone this time.

Did I read that right? After you told the 911 operator that you were armed you were told to put the gun down?

That seems insane to me.

Yes you read right i felt it was a tad insane also,

To all who have said i should move i will not be forced out by him after i started with the judge when mowing, i dont see him outside as much. I live outside of town by at least five miles with about 2 acres of land it really is almost my dream house it just is missing a indoor shooting range in the basement i will settle for the bar and a pool table though.

As far as my gun selection goes right now i have the judge and a older 12ga pump but after i bought it it does not fire every time so i would not use it unless i have to.

My cam system i have is radio shack cams. the heart is my 16 channel dvr that i have bolted inside my safe, i have a cam on my front back and side door inside and out, one in my living room, in my hallway, and one on each corner of my house. Other things i have done are double keyed dead bolts reinforced door frames and tempered glass in the doors.

i stated this poorly and inappropriately before. did the guy have issues other than chemicals? its a shame you went through all that . its why i favor a good run over a bad stand. it seems that some addicts are asking for someone else to end their misery and innocent folks get put through the ringer. i'm glad you weren't forced to hurt him worse as then only you would be suffering . and again your attitude towards his parents is commendable and all too rare today.

nope no drugs he just wanted what i had and did not want to pay for it. As far as his parents go they have done nothing wrong to me so there are no hard feelings there, their son is a grown up and is responsible for him self and his own actions.

I am glad that in the end everything worked out for you. My mother's house also has a security system, with cameras on all of the outside doors and covers the majority of her yard and driveway.

Alex says: My cam system i have is radio shack cams. the heart is my 16 channel dvr that i have bolted inside my safe, i have a cam on my front back and side door inside and out, one in my living room, in my hallway, and one on each corner of my house....-------------------------------------------------------

Now that sounds like a real good idea! The safe is bolted to the floor, right?

Yep there is not a problem my safe is so secure they would have to cut out most of a wall and the floor.

Well Alex, you are lucky to get the gun back! In Illinois? Real lucky.

I have lived in Florida for 7 years.

Lived in Canada for 35 of my 74 years. My advice, move here! CCW, Glock 19 on belt every day. The weather beats your State, we have a few Walmarts in Orlando, you would do well here, I love it.

Daley and his crew will never OK CCW in that state. It is a Police State.

The old saying... No one retires and moves North? Is true you know.

The question I keep coming to is: "Why did you miss?" In a massively critical situation where the single-shot 410 requires total accuracy, at point-blank range, you just winged the punk. That's not right. When a little pissant like this comes up against a guy with a shotgun, he deserves the maximum response.

Find a range where you can practice and get proficient with the shotgun. Definitely get a pump-action 12ga and run it until you're comfortable with the rock 'n' roll. Should this situation ever happen again, you want to be able to lay down as much firepower as you feel is necessary.

I am a great shot with the gun that was not the problem the problem was well to say it in a few words I freaked out and all the traing i have done the practice went right out the window and i just pulled the triger a few seconds early.

i hope never to have to go back through anything like this again. it is still hard to get over mowing the grass to look over and see him sitting out in their yard.
You should smile at him every time you see him.

A really big smile. Like a "I shot your dumb butt" smile.

You live next him? How uncomfortable is that???
Yeah, seriously...no restraining orders in IL?

Here he wouldn't be allowed within 250 feet of your house for 18 months. Slam dunk.

I'm glad you made it through it okay alex. I always make a point to keep a cetain amount of ammunition on hand for my defensive arms.
Yeah, me too....

In places like Illinois, and especially Chicago, you just don't matter. If you're not a cop, an ex-cop, or politically connected, your life is worthless.
And yet people voluntarily live there...

I'm glad it worked out for you. It sucks to be in Illinois.

BTW, a .45 LC is a mighty powerful round. Might want to use alternating rounds - a .45 LC then a .410 #000.
Why would you suggest alternating rounds?

@valorius looks like you would have put more than a couple of holes in him.

Glad you're alright OP, might want to look into what's causing the new 12 gauge to not fire though. :uhoh:
